I used to watch a few bush craft channels and boy have they fallen down the rabbit hole of doom scrolling and fear porn. It was a wild shift to go from camping and canoeing around the back woods for a multi day trip, to spouting all sorts of nonsense. Common sense prepping is a good thing. I lived in Pennsylvania for a long time, but my family moved to Florida for work. Went from Blizzard preparedness (Blizzard of '96, took out a bridge over the Susquehanna) to Hurricane preparedness (We lived on Merritt Island when Katrina rolled through) . Moved out and back to the north after a few more years and the first thing I did was get a bag of supplies for my car. A leave over from not wanting to get caught in snow. Water, blanket, flares, cones, tools for getting out of snowy ditch. That sort of thing. Saved me an uncomfortable few hours in a thunderstorm when my cars alternator quit on me. I need to go down to the fire station and take a first aide course. I had taken some lessons in highschool but I haven't kept up on it in the years since. Definitely need to remedy that. Thanks for reminding me.

Planning ahead to take care of yourself and your responsibilities used to be seen as having basic intelligence. That it is made out to be some exotic, quasi-foolish activity only engaged in by some weird subculture("Preppers!") is just sad. But then, we seem to live in very foolish times, so I guess it isn't too surprising. That said, thanks for the reminders. I'm stuck in a city for now, but do what I can. Cash on hand is probably the one big gap in my "preps." Time to start chipping away at that!

@@CollegeHillFarmtrue. In my case, it isn't that I can't find some cash to save so much as I never handle cash due to the bank card. I've noticed a lot of digital pay transactions at stores don't include the "cash back?" step anymore, eliminating that easy way of getting a little cash pile going a bit at a time. I've realized I need to go out of my way to go GET cash at the bank, but I keep not doing it and time keeps on slipping by. Time to just plan to make those special trips!

Well I'm newly subbed but just got unsubscribed. Tornadoes are more like. Went through one but lucky just touchdown in a field behind the house. The biggie was just before going up north to a friend's property. About a 2 mile stretch of huge trees in circles and clear skies in the woods while walking. Rootballs over a storey high. Good thing no homes there. I went to the feed store for quail and cat supplies. I had cash on hand since power was out. You can discuss something and as my boyfriend has facebook he started getting ads for it. I feel like I have to talk in code in my own house while he won't get rid of it.

I'm like you, I set back food items I will eat and rotate them throughout the year. No need for me to have items I don't eat regularly as I sure wouldn't make them first choice if an emergency came along. Some people mean well and I took a city boy under my wing for a few years until he learned what to go about in prepping. He was green as grass but had a great heart and we became very good friends. He now has milk goats, honey bees and raises a nice garden for his family. I don't even have a milk animal any longer nor bees. I'm getting too old and my hands just don't work they way they used to do.

Ill be making autumn olive wine soon. Theyre plentiful on our 80 acre lot. We call them pucker berries. Because theyre super tart. I leave out the tannin. I feeeze the fruit to make them mushy to start. Then add filterd well water, yeast and sugar. Let it ferment in my glass carbuoy with an airlock for months. Youd be surprised how well this basic method actually works. As long as you don't disturb it! Everything you dont want falls to the bottom with the dead yeast. Don't know if its the well water that gives it the taste we like or not. But im not complaining. Nor is anyone that has some of it. Potent, sweet, clear, wine you can't find at any store. I like the cuvee yest from red star. And yes. The sugar amount is important. Too little makes it dry and may be weak. Too much is like syrup. Thanks for the video. Was just wondering how anyone else does it. Or if anyone else does.

There’s a bacteria that kills the borers but not bees It’s thurgenosis ( spelled it wrong ) It works on grubs and I’ve had luck with it You have to keep it sprayed on every time it rains so you might not want to do that If the larva ingests one spore it immediately paralysis it and it turns into more spores I found the more I did it the less problems I had with the borers All the best Ken Nickerson

Man, I don't think I could really add on to what you talked about. Food deserts, DG's killing off local grocery stores (wife's a manager of DG and the stuff corporate talks about is insane), pesticides that runoff and mess with bird eggs. I live along the Susquehanna in PA and as a kid we had a whole big study on how a pesticide decimated the local bald eagle population. Couldn't nest with their eggs without crushing them. Today, I look out my apartment balcony and can sometimes see a pair of Bald Eagles sitting on our power line tower. Change can happen, it's just ponderously slow. We lived in a trailer park as newly weds. There was a real bad stray cat problem. They would get under the trailer and destroy the insulation. I bought these traps and would call animal control. The man would show up and cart them off. Well, the libtards threw a fit and the township changed it so he couldn’t take the cats anymore. Instead they would trap, neuter, and release them. I moved shortly after. Too many city people who don’t understand the reality of the situation.
