This video is better than most slide rule bezel tutorial I have seen. But it could be even clearer. It gives you some examples but the working principles are left untold. The main point with the slide rule is that when you turn the bezel you are setting a ratio between the inner and outer scale. The ratio is the same at every place around the tool. Converter is a perfect example for this. Here the bezel is set to give a ratio of 1.2 to 1. The narrator continues "The result (green arrow) appears opposite any number indicated on the bezel (red arrow)." Correct, but a little ambiguous. It could be said that you can now find the conversion between any amount of francs, which are on the outer scale, and euros, which are on the inner scale. And you can do it either way. The principle of constant ratio works also with other cases. When we are talking about speeds, you use one scale for distance, the other for time. Km/h is a ratio - but it is handier to use minutes in the time scale. The example case here was that you have travelled 112 miles in 28 minutes, so you align 11.2 with 28. Now, it would be helpful to explain that you have actually set the speed in the scales, and you can find the speed in miles per hour opposite to the 60 minutes point of the time scale. But you can also see many other things without doing any adjustments: like how long time it would take to travel 255 miles, or how far would you be after 95 minutes at this speed. Just find the point at the respective scale and see what the other scale reads there. The same principle works with fuel consumption calculations (litres or gallons per time or distance). You often don't need to think about dvision or multiplication at all. A slide rule is kind of handier than a calculator, as you can see all the conversion results once you have set the ratio. With a calculator, typing in numbers is needed for every single conversion.
