no thing but music, but one of the most significant and moving moments of all human activites.

I own about 10+ Parsifal's, this 1964 included,, Love them all, all from 1950 through this 1964,, Just heard the KRAUSS on my full range speaks, 6 speaker system, One of the very finest chorus,, Krauss did a much better job conducting This 53 Parisfal, vs his lousey Ring Cycle. ,,ok now it just finished,, my least liked ending of the 10 recordings,, The Krauss 1953 far superior to this KNA 1964,,

Ads at the beginning and at the end, okay, I understand. But DURING the music? You interrupt Mozart with ADS?! Nope, I’m out.

The best of all according to Dave Hurwitz is this recording of Charles Munch with the Boston Symphony on Living Stereo. Hurwitz says that this recording "defines the word classic ” because Boston's Symphony Hall is one of the finest halls in the world in terms of acoustics and has a splendid organ. In addition, he praises Munch's playing, saying that, although he had a reputation as a “wild man,” in the studio he was able to be more restrained. As a result, the recording has a "grandeur without pomposity ‘ and an ’unmatched majesty ”. The recording itself also sounds like it was made yesterday, thanks to good balances and judicious microphone placement.

Wahnfried......superb Italian diction from a Dane, who normally preferred singing in German translation....and such a passionate rendition.

Very nicely written & conducted. Transitions from Major to minor are very delicate, true, natural. They have not made anything Obvious.!

Finally --a conductor who knows Mozart --who doesn't rush the piece, or overly dramatize it as if he were conducting Beethoven or Wagner!

Pack an!

I was at both performances of this...and the coming summer, as well as the next two, was a student of Izler Solomon at Aspen. What a treat to have this memorable performance to hear! During the year I was a student of the BSO's associate conductor/concertmaster, Richard Burgin...who can be heard fearlessly leading the three solo strings in the second part of Variation Five. This is an excellent sonic portrait of the BSO of those days, flaming brass and all, and for me a vivid recollection of my distant student days at Harvard!
