I prefer harmonic minor. I like the lead note being a semitone.

Great explanation of how to count these time signatures. I learned to play by ear and 6/8 tunes were the first tunes I learned to play - and the shorthand way I thought of it in terms of rhythm was that 6/8 was a fast version of 3/4 which is very familiar waltz time. It's a foot tapping approach to find the beat.

I'm only 4 min in, but holy SHIT, this video is blowing my mind/confirming things I've always felt about the natural minor scale. I'm self-taught and know a little theory (band in high school and knowledge picked up over the years), but not that much, videos like these are helpful to me in ways I'll never be able to truly express. Thank you!

If I have a song with a C note, and a D note, and want to use chords to harmonize with each of those (the C or D) how do I get the chords that would go with a C or D? Hope that makes sense to someone. TY!

I'm learning to play the guitar properly years after being in a punk metal band. The Udemy course I follow is great, but I was puzzling over this very question that this video just answered, clearly. Thanx a bunch & all the best.

This is by far the best explanation of this I ever heard. Let me be clear, I am Not a musician. I do not play an instrument. I’m one of those nuts that loves to play around on GarageBand and whatnot attempting to make music. I’ve looked at explanations of sus chords before. But never walked away having a great sense of how to use them. I certainly didn’t understand the ambiguity in the way that you explained. In fact I realize I didn’t really understand 3rds until now. (Well maybe I still don’t to actual musicians) But the point is I learned a lot.

I wonder if other people sometimes like to just play soothing chords like minor 7ths, Sus2, Sus 4 with or without minor or Major 7ths. Or mellow Major chords that just combine the unusual forms like 1(Tonic) 267, or 146 etc.? They have certain names, but I just like to remember the chord components just as a numeric sequence defined by the numbers of the Major scale that are used like 1247 (CDFB). That is my secret musical shame.

Sometimes you do want a lot of notation in small space. Go to a guitar store and see the different people playing. I guarantee you that the guy playing fast is getting the most attention, often more than the guy playing people's favorite songs.

Great break down of everything. how it works and why, where it doesn't wor k and why it doesn't work but most importantly how to kake that work after all. My question is why you can't use the non dyadic time signature of 2/3 woth two dotted quater notes or 4 dotted eoght notes, 8 dotted 16th notes, 16 dotted 32nd notes, 32 dotted 64th notes? Maybe even one dotted half note?
