This is a wonderful project. I've seen the blessing of writing out scriptures creatively as well. Creativity is a gift that is meant to be shared, and really inspires me to focus on God's word. Wow so inspiring! I want to try this too. I love the Word of God! My question is, did you watercolor first before writing over it or the other way around? So real. Just love you sharing your thoughts and art with us.

Thank you :). You can so either as long as you're using waterproof ink. Sometimes I write it in pencil to be sure I have the layout right, then go over it with waterproof ink. Be sure to erase any pencil marks you don't want before you watercolor - water makes them permanent. I don't have any problem erasing the pencil if I'm writing over dry paint though. It's just a matter of choice - watercolor the background or write the verse first.

It is an Artist's Loft Sketchbook from Michaels (www.michaels.com/product/plaid-sketchbook-by-artists-loft-85-x-11-10692656?michaelsStore=1680&inv=2). They come in different colors and sometimes pretty designs on the cover too. They go on sale often too.

Thank you :). You can do it either way. I often use pencil to write out the verse or sketch my illustration (before painting or right over the dry watercolors). This helps me be sure my with the layout or any difficult lettering or illustration. Since pencil becomes permanent once water or paint covers it, I make sure to erase it before painting a layer over it.

I like that 👌 , I did something similar, cut triangles out of a brown paper bag material, and blackened all three edges then pasted them down throughout the intire page.

You know you could probably take a piece of paper separated from your book. That's the same size as your book. I mean spray the shaving cream on that. Then put the crowd paint on that and tip it into your book instead of having to take the whole book and dip it into the shaving cream just an. Idea for you to maybe try

Just watching this when I’m at a similar season of transition - what a great way to keep focus on God’s word when everything around you is changing. This is something I could do even while travelling- that’s when I least feel out of touch with creativity and lose practice:)

I’ve just discovered your site. I am a 73 yo woman dealing with stage four met breast cancer. One thing in my bucket list is to learn to draw and paint. Nothing elaborate. I’ve been praying about what my interests are to start. I know the Holy Spirit led me to your site, and I know bible study with scripture journaling is it. I love the Lord, and this is the way I want to spend the rest of my days in praise of Him. I also want to learn to draw as a gift to leave to my young grand-son (really good artist) when I go home. He’s always encouraging me to learn to draw (“gramma, you can do it”, “just try”.) I am thankful that you’ve posted, and thankful that God led me this way. Blessings.

Thank you so much for your video and your wonderful witness!! I would not be able to draw as well as you do, but I do like your concepts throughout. Also I completely agree, the only writing in my Bible is small notes on the margin and some highlighting. Otherwise I just couldn't do all that covering up of the scriptures, the way some do.

I hope you consider some of the tracing techniques I’ve shown in my other videos. If I have an idea for illustrating a scripture, I don’t want my talent limits to hold me back. There are so many ways to trace and and transfer.

Also, because Bibles are so plentiful here now, many people have a specific journaling Bible and feel free to be creative in them. I have an Illustrating Bible with extra wide margins just for journaling in too.

How did you choose your words to journal on?

Initially I was using an NIV Study Bible with a concordance. I opened the concordance and looked through the words until I found able - it caught my interest so I started with it. What is God able to do... Later there seemed to be a recurring word - songs, sermons, my quiet time, etc. - that seemed the obvious choice. I've also chosen words that I felt like I needed to invest time in to grow in that area.

I use an Artist's Loft Sketchbook sold by Michaels. It's not actual watercolor paper but it's thicker than most journals and handles it pretty well.
