Hi, thanks for the amazing tutorials. You said, there is a pre-defined list of roles in accessibility tree, do you know where I can find these pre-defined list?

Like your talk Jamie. But can we just always put the slide there so we can read it ? Or just put the camera aside to the slide? Keep switching between slide and camera back and forth is not that enjoyable 😅

If one was to ask a random sample of tech practitioners: Are accessibility guidelines objective or subjective? The overwhelming majority would say "subjective". This misconception creates, or at a minimum, justifies, a resistance to accessibility. Important talk.

Thanks Patrick. Yes often making opportunity for accessibility recommendations even if not because of a WCAG non-conformance.

I liked that the testing participant enjoyed feeling a non-linear tactile design. Conceiving of a web experience as non-linear can't be easy, even with Skip-links and alike.

Vithya so concise! Good to know that accessible videos rank higher by Google - I wasn't aware of that. I also didn't know that screen readers work better if auto player is turned off. Some valuable insights.

I think we also need to stop saying things like "only this small percentage of users are disabled" - from the both sides. Everyone benefits from inclusive design!
@stevebarnett2804
@stevebarnett2804 3 жыл бұрын
I strongly agree, Quintin! My favourite way to help people think about that is to talk about seeing disability as a spectrum, not a binary. My friend Nicola and I wrote a piece for 24 Accessibility a few years ago that breaks this down a bit: www.24a11y.com/2018/disability-is-a-spectrum-not-a-binary/

Exactly! Also, even with modern technology, no matter what, as we age, we may become disabled one way or another, so everyone benefits from accessibility. There is permanent disability, temporary disability, and situational disability that can happen to any one at any time. We all would want our independence in life.

I am always dealing with pushback, although they know they are required to abide by WCAG, we do have best practices that they tend to not want to acknowledge. Agreeing with their objections while explaining the benefits for our customers with disabilities would be a great approach, I can try that for once. Great A11y video!

Yay! Thanks, Caramel. Before I started this agreeing approach, I used the arguing approach for a while. That can kinda work too 😅. I wrote about that a bit here: medium.com/feduxery/yeah-but-objections-to-doing-accessibility-work-7fb36406a36
