people die crossing this bar nearly every year, majority of the time these deaths can be avoided, and the main cause of death is not drowning, it is stupidity, check the conditions first from the headland and bar wall, know what your doing and yeah!!!

But DO NOT keep the power on for the full face of the wave, always back off to allow your bow to fall over the crest of the wave then accelerate again to the next wave & repeat the process. NEVER keep the power on right up a cresting wave otherwise you could find yourself airborne and re enter the water transom first! Once committed to a bar crosssing NEVER TURN BACK mid crossing.

One of the most important parts of crossing a bar is to idle in the river to evaluate the wave patterns on the bar and it is best to do this for around 20 mins prior to committing to a crossing. Before starting your crossing look at the wave patterns at the back of the break as these are the waves that you will meet mid bar. When you identify a break in the wave patterns proceed to sea with speed.

Commit wait study when coming back study run out tide is not good if you get caught watch the pattern 3 5 sequence watch the rouge ones get on the back of a wave stay there get your mate to watch behind you drive the boat feel tje ocean match your speed to the conditions if you start broaching back off till the nose comes back up not suddenly so you lose forward motion carry a shute deploy it in bad coditions centre of stern if possible it will pull you back from going down the mine wear your lifejacket its law on any bar nsw put as much as you can aft secure everything tie it down an esky full of fish and ice suddenly going somewhere when you broach will sink you respect the ocean know your vessel and it limitations keep power under control and some in reserve and dont believe everything boat builders tell you test yourself if it looks bad stay away no fish is worth dying for i have 63 years of experience in the sea and when it turns onyou it will make you take notice she is a cruel and unpredictablemistress.....hope this helps you 😊
