Beautiful build, Paul! I am currently working on 2 more 1961 Coral Sea aircraft carriers. The first one went to my brother in Washington and the one I'm currently building goes to my brother in law in Michigan. Their Dad served on the Coral Sea when he was in the Navy. He's passed away a few years ago so I'm building these for the family to honor him. I am also going to start one that will belong to my wife and I.

Paul, that came out great. The decals are awful in all the boxing's of the Skyraider. The Monogram Skyraider builds up to a great looking plane. In some areas, I like it better than the Tamiya one. For wing root gaps, I like to use a water based putty such as Vallejo. You can apply it, let it set for a few minutes and then wipe it away with a wet Q-tip. It might take a few passes with the putty, but there is no sanding to wipe out the panel lines.

Talk about nostalgia! Those old Monogram kits were great; certainly better than the early Airfix kits available back in the early 80's. You are doing a fantastic job on this old girl (can I still say that??). She really looks great Paul. Which color scheme are you going for? Sorry Paul to see Revell's lack of Engineering finesse and an obvious effort at test fitting their products prior to release to the Public. Special Hobby kits were like this at one stage - I havn't built another one in a while so I don't know what they are like now. I do remember the Hawker Tempest you built that was in fact a Special Hobby kit. It appears, to me at least, that Revell design these products on Computer, then flick the files straight to a third party, probably the third party who bid for the job cheapest, then manufacture, box and release. I would have engineered those wing roots separately so they attach to the fuselarge directly, and onto a wing 'box' that a single peice leading edge would mount onto. Job done. We could go on and on about Revell Paul, but I think it's a pretty safe bet they don't care about who buys their products, as long as money changes hands and they make some level of profit. As for unbuildable kits try Heller's 72 scale Constellation, Revell's 32 scale P-38 Lightning, or AMT's 16 scale 1955 Chev Bel Air, that ended up in the trash just a few weeks ago. I wish you well moving forward on this project Paul - to be honest I am now looking forward to your next Project... All the best from a dark and cold Stratford, New Zealand! Cheers, Dennis
@paulsmodels
@paulsmodels Ай бұрын
Thanks for all your comments Dennis. I actually built Revell's 1/32 P-38 about 5 years ago. It has pretty bad fitting issues, worse then this Hurricane. It's really a crap shoot with Revell, and Monogram. I have had some good kits with them, not too many but some. Most have been laced with fitting issues; gaps, uneven matching of parts, canopies to large. I am going to finish the Hurricane as I paid decent money for it, and I want a 1/32 scale Hurricane on the shelf with my other WW2 airplanes. And then there was that 1/32 Tempest I just built a year ago...yikes!
@denniseichert2323
@denniseichert2323 Ай бұрын
@@paulsmodels I agree Paul. Revell's 32 scale Ju88, their Arado floatplane in 32 scale. Fantastic kits. The truth is we will all, as modellers, never know what goes on in the Revell Boardrooms, and what their Business models are in regard to plastic model kits. I do know that Revell Manufacture many other product lines. I wonder what they are like? Hmmm... I built the Monogram 48 scale kits when I was a Lad, and loved them. I can't remember (too far back deep in the mists of time...!) whether or not I had fit issues. I was young then, and didn't care. In fact I am currently working on Monogram's 48 scale B-29, the only one of the 48 scale Monogram bombers I didn't build as a young Man. And it's fighting me Paul...it really is. I know some of it is me and my current state of medical health, however I am also cognoscent enough to know some of it is the Product. I am an Engineer (or rather was an Engineer - Aeronautical Design Engineer), so I know a bad kit when I see one. There is no way I would design the Hurricane kit you are now struggling with Paul in the same manner as Revell have done. It's a pretty safe bet Zukei Mura's Design Engineers wouldn't either. I know this kit isn't exactly cheap either. Here in New Zealand they want $123.00 for it (approx., depending on the Vendor). It's almost a pride thing. That Tempest was an older Special Hobby Product, and I am sure they would have improved their products since releasing that particular model kit. Anyway, all the best Paul! I look forward to seeing where you take this project from here. I would subscribe to your channel; sadly due to our personnel circumstances I cannot fund you in any meaningful way. If I am wrong in this please let me know Paul and I'll happily sign on! Cheers, Dennis.

Good Afternoon Paul from a cold and wet Stratford, New Zealand! You are doing a fantastic job on that kit Paul. I am most impressed with this product - it looks to me as though somebody in Corporate Revell has taken a look at the diving profits of their products, and maybe listened to the comments from modellers the world over, and decided it's time to get back into the game. That clear peice in the central crutch assembly for example - that is something only a modeller would have come up with. It's better to have a larger single peice to cement into place, than have to faff around with two tiny clear pieces that can easily rocket off out of the tweezers and into hyperspace never to be seen again! We as modellers know this, but a designer who doesn't build models may not. The way in which this product has been designed reminds me of Special Hobby kits. If I hadn't already built an Airfix 24 scale Hurricane I would be sorely tempted to ask Santa for one of these kits. Hopefully Revell will follow up with perhaps something like a TA152H-1, Fw190A-8 or even a Zero. I think, in this engineering and design format they will sell well! I could'nt believe when I saw a review recently of this kit Paul the reviewer complained the kit had to few parts, and although there was nothing wrong with the product, he kept bemoaning the lack of 400 parts and a motor! Honestly Paul, sometimes I am ashamed to be English (albeit an Englishman living on the other side of the world!). I am terminally Ill Paul with a degenerative Brain disease that is destroying my nervous system and my internal organs at pretty much the same time, which makes building the more complicated kits out of the question for me. This layout is perfect for modellers in my boat (even older modellers or those new to the hobby.) Anyway Paul, you are really bringing out the best in this product - I look forward to following you as you progress! All the best, Dennis.
