Great video. My friend recently bought a 28 foot sail boat powered by an inoperable A40. We just got it running and I've got to say, for an engine made in the early 1970s it starts right up with ease, runs like a top. Parts are difficult to find but can be DIY'd for cheap. It feels like it will run forever.

Ola amigo. Tenho um vire 7 motoren e estou com problemas de acertar o carburador. Ele funciona bem na lenta mas falha na alta, quando se aumenta a aceleração. Notei que na saida em baixo do filtro de ar, quando ele esta na lenta não cria excesso de combustivel. Mas quando se aumenta a aceleração ele manda mta gasolina para a saida da tubulação do filtro de ar, e assim falha e as vezes apaga. Como posso solucionar este problema ????? Já fiz a troca das juntas da agulha e da base da mesma. Seposilvel ajude-me a encontrar a solução. Obrigado.

I bought a lovely Vire 7 from two enthusiasts over in Norfolk in a lovely picturesque village, but only managed to install it in my Kestrel 22' this season. Almost there with fitting it out and looking forward to making some test runs up the Exe Estuary very soon.

Love the sound of a VIRE. I had a VIRE 12 which was overhauled by nicktheengineer and re-built by Rock Channel Marine it become very very very reliable and is quiet with some poke in the right boat. I has the VIRE 12 in a 2.5 ton kestrel 22. When cranking it would move the boat faster then the river speed limit and I would have to keep taking the screw out of gear to comply with the speed limit. Top speed I ever has was about 9-10 nots, but this was GPS distance over the ground in a river rather then speed through the water and ther be a bit of flow in that figure. I also used to get that chocking you got when you pressed the throttle up too quick, this can be limited by fuel mix, I used 1:50 mix but I think it could be used with less oil. Fuel air mix also help to get the boat rid of the chocking but it become header to start in cold weather. REAL REAL Good engine.

Four primary considerations; Does the MD6A have good compression? Is water leaking into one of the cylinders [injector tube leak]? Is the fuel supply okay? Is the exhaust mixing elbow open and not rusted closed? Quatre considérations primaires; Le MD6A avoir une bonne compression? L'eau se déverse dans l'un des cylindres [tube injecteur fuite]? bonjour, mon md6a refuse de demarrer malgres le passage de 3 mécanos, moteur refait ainsi que la pompe a injection, quelqu'un peut il m apporter de l aide svp, je déprime la !!

Do you happen to have a good source for parts? I have an A40 with the hydraulic drive in a sailboat. Broke valve springs (replaced), and now have poor compression. May need to take the head off. Say, what does the little lever behind the big cam pulley do?
