I was 16 and had hit my head that morning but around 10 at night I called my mom in a panic. I couldn’t move my right leg so my mom took me to the emergency room. The nurses were all worried about and very nice but the doctor was anything but. He told me I had sprained my ankle and it was all in my head. I said yeah it’s in my head I hit it this morning. He turns to my mom and said I needed anger management classes. We went to get a second opinion from somewhere else and the doctor I saw was livid because he never even bothered to get a ct scan. Which she did and it showed that I had swelling in my brain. I ended suffering headaches and migraines for four months along with occasional numbness in my right leg. It got better after that but this doctor could have killed me.

So as a dancer I had a really bad back from doing a stunt. I really love dance, So when I learned this news I was sad and really angry! To me it was ridiculous but necessary. I had the take the whole summer off of dance…

I have a chronic genetic mucle disease it does make my imune system worse. but the standard mask stops you from spreading covid with negligible benifits for protecting yourself you need an N-95 mask to protect yourself from others and those will get expensive quick. Make an informed desishion on your own and I hope this helps. Make sure to make the most of your life in however you see fit.

Where did you learn this? This only makes sense as a means to spare unpleasant acknowledgements of reality to people who are in fact less empowered by their environment than others(disabled).

This is called the Social Model of Disability. It was coined in the 80s by a disabled sociologist, Mike Oliver. It poses our conditions as impairments, whereas what actually disables us (aka takes away our abilities) is an unsupportive environment. It's not that we can't learn, it's that schools refuse to teach us in a different way. It's not that we can't get around, it's that roads, paths, and buildings are not made to allow our movement. A good way to tell impairment from disability in this model, is this: Is there any realistic context where you could do X with your impairment with an accommodation of any kind? Then it is society disabling you, not the impairment. Blindness would be the impairment. A lack of braille access would be the disablement.

A lady at at SFO TSA probably hates me, she grabbed me and just started pulling out of line, I was furious and braked myself and she was super confused. I almost angry cried but I got it together to educate them and went on my way. It’s also astounding to me how many people will literally step over my feet to reach a grocery store shelf, like hi, I’m a human and if you fall on me it’s gonna mess me worse than you.

One of my local actual theatres is so well designed for this. The wheelchair spaces are in between seats in a section. It’s great because the wheelchair user can sit next to two people, whereas most other places they could only sit next to one. It had a refurbishment in the last 10 years and it’s great how much thought went into the wheelchair spaces compared to other places.

Don’t annoy them, demand adequate care! I’m 25 and just got diagnosed with Hypermobile EDS, I’ve been struck with the pain for 15 years and it’s well worth getting checked just in case!
