Can you explain how to measure the wheel for the tires, is it the inside diameter or outside diameter of the wheel? I am trying to purchase a set and can't find a measurement that suits and the wheels I'm looking at only do the front I'm confused; thanks Ken
@MetroHobbiesAusКүн бұрын
To measure the width and diameter of RC car tires, you can use a precision caliper to measure the rim width, and then use the inside diameter of the tire and the outside diameter of the wheel to determine the correct size: • Rim width: Use a precision caliper to measure the width of the rim from the inside of one bead seat to the inside of the other. • Tire diameter: The tire and wheel size are stated in inches and refer to the inside diameter of the tire and the outside diameter of the wheel. • Tire radius: Divide the width of the tire by two to get the radius of the tire. Some RC models, like monster trucks and rock crawlers, have larger rear-wheel rims, so you may need to take two measurements. You should also consider the offset of the hexagonal mounting slots, which is the distance from the inside of the rim to the interior hex.

Built the Meng Mclaren mp44 and found it an absolute joy. However just bought the Magnifier GT40 based on this review. For the sake of a few mold lines and a bit of putty its a no brainer. Great review well narrated and not self indulgent waffle. Thanks

Do Gundam kits need a pre-wash in hot soapy water to remove mold release agent, or have they already been treated? I added some of the stickers to my MG RX-78 ver 3.0 a week or two ago, and they are curling and peeling off.
@MetroHobbiesAus7 күн бұрын
It's not necessary to pre-wash Gundam kits before building them, but we do have some modellers who will always give them a pre-wash or wipe them down to remove any oils. You could try applying a decal adhesive over the top of the ones you have applied to re-apply them.

Here’s a question nobody’s asked…should one “break-in” the chassis/gearbox/brushed motor of a new RC car before running it hard? The reason I’m asking is that the Tamiya mini 4wd racers spend time breaking in their brushed motors by running them slow for a while. Then they set the car on a pedestal with a motor installed and run it slow under no load for a while to get everything working together smoothly. It seems nobody really does this RC cars! I just bought an expensive RTR that I want to get the most out of speed and endurance wise and am considering about breaking it in nice and easy. Maybe pulling the brushed motor and running it at 3V for 30 min. Then, running the car on a pedestal slow for 20 min or so. Unnecessary? Thoughts? Thanks!!!

I find that gently "rolling" the tip of the cotton bud over the waterslide decal, while holding it in place, helps remove any bubbles and/or water from under the decal, as well as stopping it from moving around from the "dabbing" action, rather than holding it in place and "dabbing" it. A coat of matt varnish over the decal removes any of the obvious lines around the edge of the decal as well.

I bought one of the Carrera Go F1 sets last year and have bought a few more sets and cars over this year. The Carrera Go sets are alot more fun when you make larger faster layouts with the bigger curves and banked curve pieces. Then you can drive the cars harder than the basic box layouts which dont let you get much speed.

Hi Jim, We used different components of the Light my Bricks range for this build, they range in cost from between $6.99 AUD ($4.54USD) and $24.99AUD ($16.42USD) Sadly we don't have much of the Light my bricks range left in stock at the moment, what we do have can be viewed here: www.metrohobbies.com.au/collections/light-my-bricks?sort=price-ascending

I have an SCX original analog track with analog pit box with connected tower. Will Carrera cars work with my pit box? I have tried FLY and Ninco and they don't trigger the pit box. So far only SCX cars trigger it.

For the water slide decals, i did not notice you mention, but did you just apply it straight to an unpainted plastic surface? I find you want to usually coat with a clear gloss coat to allow the decal to go on smoothly. And, if also helps to blend in and prevent "silvering", more importantly. Then, after all the decal setting solution has been applied and decals really set, go over the entire model with another clear coat, but, usually a matte/flat to make entire look cohesive and remove the glossy finish. I guess my question is the semi-gloss finish of the plastic as it is good enough to prevent silvering without needing a gloss coat? Then, towards the end, apply an overall matte/flat finish to make it all a cohesive look.
@MetroHobbiesAusАй бұрын
Hi Khronokraze, for unpainted Gundam models we have found the surface should be good enough to apply decals direct to the surface and then gloss/matt varnish the model for the finish required. If weathering the models or doing a panel lining ALL models need to be glossed, panel lining done and the gloss/matt varnished as desired

I give my car a little compressed air bath and then a paintbrush to get the other dust off .mif ot looks clean and dustless enough I ll spray the bearings with dry silicon lube and then brush around the remaining silicone on the arms and they’ve always looked almost new when I’m done . Wipe out the insides of the tires is the last thing I do .

For best results uur recommendation would be something like the Tamiya Airbrush Cleaner www.metrohobbies.com.au/products/tamiya-airbrush-cleaner-250ml You could also use a Lacquer Thinner to clean your airbrush as well :)
