Pete, can’t believe you received criticism, you’re an inspiration to me! I’m 75, just (finally) getting into CW, and stumbled into an absolute “love & obsession” with collecting & learning about keys. Your collection must be amazing, and I want to thank you. I hope to look into your key covers one day (I have 2 keys on the way from Bruna, and want to protect them properly). Thanks for your wonderful videos… 73 WI8O

Hi, I just got this contour from begali...theres no 3.5mm cable!! I have a double ended stereo..but only the left paddle works. Theyve gone on holiday so I cant call. What cable do I need? stereo/mono? or is there something wrong with the key..thanks in advance.

It's a lovely key that looks just great on the desk and so it justifies that limited real estate, but mine has always had an odd escapement and once I purchased aluminium paddles from BamaTech for my Kent "Iambic" I use that instead. This is a great shame and I have had multiple attempts at tweaking my Simplex Mono but it is what it is I'm afraid. The 1980s era Kent is crisp and positive with the BamaTech paddles replacing Kent's plastic efforts. The Begali is intermittent on dots (RHS for me because I configure paddles opposite to the convention.) I kind of know my way around adjusting key settings having spent my working life in engineering. It was a delight to watch your factory tour video.

Very interesting! I recently saw a video where a CW guy pointed out that the style of keying here in the US is with one’s arm on the desk so we should look for keys that have a deep curve in the key arm to get your fingers closer to the tabletop. And that the British style is with the arm above the table, as you do, keying from the elbow. Your thoughts on that? And which of the Begali straight keys would be better for forearm-on-the-table keying in your opinion?

Beautifully styled and functional products. It’s very gracious of the Begali family to allow such an enlightening tour of their premises.

Hi Pete - enjoy you Begali videos. Can you tell me abt the cord thaat comes with the key? I know the jack is 3.5mm, can you tell me what the other end that plugs into the radio is? 3.5 or 1/4". Thanks! 73 Rich
@PeteSobye
@PeteSobye 3 ай бұрын
Hi Rich. Thanks for the message. The cave that comes with all the keys is a 3.5mm TRS to 3.5mm TRS. For some models, such as the Intrepid, requires you to snip off one end of the lead and ‘hard wire’ by soldering onto the key. What I like to do is to buy a bunch of leads which have a 3.5MM stereo (TRS) socket on it. I then solder the lead and socket onto the key. That way I can have a socket on each key and can swap them out quickly. On the radio end of the lead, if the radio requires a larger plug (think they are referred to as a ¼”) then I used a simple step up adapter. 73’ Pete G0PNM

Hi, in doing my research of straight keys I found your video and the Kent is interesting to me (beginner here). I came across an online review in which the person had posted a video of his Kent in use, and there was noticeable clacking - that is not appealing to me. After watching h your video, however, I heard no clacking. Could you offer insight as to why one might clack and the other doesn’t? Could it be the change in ownership of the company? I want to make sure my first purchase is of a good straight key. Thank you!
@PeteSobye
@PeteSobye 5 ай бұрын
Hi MW. Thanks for the question. The ‘clacking’ you hear is from a wider gap in the contact. A closer gap and you get reduced noise. 73 and good luck in your search.

This was a fantastic video to “get to know” Bruna. One bit of constructive criticism if you will, please don’t add the “Hmmm”, “Yeah, “okay” while someone else is speaking. It’s very distracting. Thanks for doing the video and I really hope you don’t take criticism in a negative way.

I think you short-changed both 9A5N keys AND your audience. When introducing a Begali key you give dimensions and have pleasant background music, and even go for a QSO at the end! How come none of that was done in regards to reviewing Neno’s key? 🤨

How do you connect the HF Radio / SDRPlay in Omnirig? Rig1 I assume the HF but then in Rig 2 how do you specify the SDRPlay? I dont have a COM port for the SDRPlay. In windows 10 shows as Software Defined Radio as a sound card card that it is, so there is no COM port. There is a ton of videos about the cable connections but nobody explain the Omnirig / Sdr software part, funny, dont even MFJ have instructions for that, they just sell you they box and "good luck".
