Well nowadays that kinda wound wouldn't even matter if we all saw Obi-Wan and how many freaking times people get stabbed with lightsabers and just walk away from it. Totally takes the impact and shock out of anything. If Phantom Menace was made today, I'm sure Qui-Gon would've survived.
