Gorgeous 1638 Rucker's double reproduction. There's a video of the same model with Johannes Keller demonstrating all the features in various combinations with various Sweelinck compositions.

Nice playing. I don't care for the writer. Too many notes. He should leave spaces and let it breathe. He would have benefitted from some lessons with Thelonious Monk, who told a soloist "Don't play everything you know", meaning not to show off technique with torrents of notes.

Earlier today I came across a version of Albinoni's Adagio on you tube. It tool me right back to the hall at The Green School in Isleworth with the tiny school orchestra playing it. The star of the piece was Monica Huggett - and I still remember her shock of hair and the beaty of the sound she brought out of the violin. (And her tolerance of people like me who could barely play.) I haven't thought about her for a long time. So then I put her name into the you tube search engine and have been so glad to hear her play again.

I have come to feel in my geriatric soul that smaller productions of Messiah have their own strength and charm. Surely none can be much more minimal than this, but the elegance of production and fantastic abilities of the artists make it a monument. For me, anyhow.

Thank you KOIN! "Messiah" can transcend usual musical taste categories. And, it has an appeal that transcends any given religious tradition. I'm driving down from Seattle to hear this perforamce.

So very happy for new Artistic Director Julian Perkins' selection! Perhaps it's my computer, but it's difficult to hear Julain. However, it seems during the discussion he must have been well heard by the house audience! Bravo Bravo for Julian's selection!

Yes, it wasn't just you. Sadly we weren't able to fully capture all of the conversation in a way that we wanted but that evening it was very well heard and received. Thank you for your interest.

Very interesting to listen to a version played on a baroque instrument, more to the essence of how it was at that time, I think. THX!
