one of the few aircraft that can claim warbird heritage. To me she's a YO-55 not an Ercoupe, but I still would love to fly one again.

I thought you were at my home field (KLQK, Pickens...SC) until I heard "runway 16." Nice bird. Considering one myself.

In the Ercoupe, what is your speed on final? I hear two different numbers. Some say 75kts and other 65kts.. or does it depend on the aircraft.

FUN AIRCRAFT..I just purchase one now to fly..lol first flight was really strange ..w 400 hrs in a 172. The first flight had me laughing at the take off and lancing Is characteristics. Do you now own it?

My first experience in Ercoupe serial 036 out of Fort Worth Texas back in the early 2000s. At the time it was one of the last pre WW2 ercoupes flying. Very fun plane.

You're right. The only actual engine out landings are done by gliders.

Does anyone teach rocking the wings back and forth 20 to 30 degrees to bleed off altitude anymore? It used to be part of the training, way back in the day.

How is the fit in the Ercoupe with two decent sized guys? I'm thinking about buying a small two seater that isn't tandem and Ercoupes look pretty good but I'm a decent sized dude. Not sure it would even fit two adults with me in there.

This Ercoupe has a similar paint scheme to mine. Mine is a 1961 Forney F1A Aircoupe. It has bucket seats, and more gauges. Mine has rudders and you are correct about the rudders taking up legroom. Mine has the rectangle control wheels vs the pretzel wheels.

I remember my dad climbing out of the Cessna 172 at Sparta White Co. Airport. I never thought about it until I took off and passed about 300 feet off the ground and realized, "Hey I am all by myself now!" I had a great time. I went out the next day and rented the same airplane and did my first unsupervised solo. Sparta White is now a shopping center.

My Ercoupe has factory rudder pedals so it is a little more to keep up with. I have it housed on a grass strip to save money. There is a big difference between taking off and landing on grass versus paved runways.

Hi Mike are you still flying the Ercoupe? Would you recommend it for flight lessons instead of the usual choices?
@terrallputnam79792 жыл бұрын
Old Ercoupes are rudder less which is easier to learn but then it is a bit of a curve when you move to other aircraft that have rudder pedals. They used to have a special license for Ercoupe pilots only. You had to get more instruction and more qualifications to fly other AC. My dad got his first 4 hours in an Ercoupe. Then he started his lessons in a Piper Cub. He did not want to get pigeon holed into one airplane only. He wound up buying a Cub, later on. He made me promise not to become a pilot for a living and told me I could buy any plane I wanted except an Ercoupe. Oops, sorry dad, I bought an Ercoupe but mine has rudder pedals.

You guys fly low doesn't look like anywhere to land if the engine quits I think I would go up to 5000 feet at least give some range.

From what I was told they were originally sold as kits in the Macy's catalog if you can believe it.

Did you get this one bought yet? I have had mine for one week now. Have flown it only a few hours. It seems that the controls are different on almost every Ercoupe I have met. Where is the trim controls on this one? Where is the cabin heat vent control? Where is the jacks for the headset(s) and where is the carb heat? There are lots of controls that people never talk about.
@jamesbarros9503 жыл бұрын
My dad had one when I was small enough to fit in a baby seat in the luggage area. I hope to get my license and get one in the next few years and take him up in it.

I remember 415Cs with my dad. I was ten or twelve. He thought he was teaching me how to fly. I'd hold that round wheel while he threw all those switches. I was supposed to understand. Then we'd go fly. At 2000 ft he'd let me me steer for awhile. When I gained or lost five feet he'd grab the wheel and force me to correct. At fifteen I told him I was done. Only flew with him two more times as an adult passenger. He just died today.
@WoutervanTiel2 жыл бұрын
I bet that all your dad wanted was to fly together with you. To show how special it is and just to be together in that activity. I know this because I have the same issue with my son, but we are getting a second chance at it.
