In March this year, I twisted my left ankle after landing on an opponent’s foot during a basketball game. For some reason, my opponent extended his leg forward under me, and I landed on it. Those who play basketball know that twisting an ankle happens once every few years, and it usually heals within a few weeks. This time, I thought it would be the same, but the pain persisted. I ended up consulting ten orthopedic surgeons; only the ninth and tenth confirmed a tear in the talofibular ligament and recommended surgery. On November 7, 2024, I underwent the operation and am now in the first stage of rehabilitation. Today is the third day post-operation, and the pain has slightly subsided. If anyone is interested, feel free to ask questions-I’ll be happy to answer them. I’ll also periodically update my status here.

I have severely sprained ATFL and CFL, after fracturing (avuslion) of Cuboid and 5th Metesarel - The physio said it is long journey of recovery - My ankle is very weak and still painful and even tender where the ligaments are to touch! He said we check back in a few weeks for more weight-bearing on this foot alone - but been 4 months since the breaks and he said with two ligatments sprained it could take up 9 months for some sort of recvoery!! Another 3 weeks for the job with high walking invloved!

Okay so recently I rolled down a hill and had an X-ray done because of ankle pain, my growth plate looked off so I was put onto a boot. It wasn’t fractured but was definitely sprained. It has been about two weeks since then, and my ankle still hurts internally. I have to crack it and stretch it before moving or it hurts immensely. I don’t know if this is a doctor type case or should I just thug it out.

On-duty law enforcement injury that led to me having this surgery approximately 2 years ago… I have 7/10 aches and pains on a daily basis, 25 years old- athletic physique- 5’08” 190lbs. It took me about a month in a cast with no leg usage. Then about another on crutches, but still felt incredibly unstable. I began walking around with a cane after my crutches to allow my ankle more time to heal post surgery. I went to Physical Therapy twice a week, for about a year, paid for by worker’s comp, and it helped a lot with my overall mobility, but only got back maybe around 65-70% total mobility. During this time, I gained about 25lbs due to not wanting to work out from the pain. I kept saying, “I’ll give it more time to heal”. 2 years later and I’m back in the gym, consistently, and I can lift and do my everyday life including working LAPD. However, the pain still aches and hurts every second of the day. I’m sitting right now, and my ankle is throbbing. What I’m trying to do is lose body fat, to put overall less stress on my ankle and weight lifting to bring back the surrounding muscles in my leg to help aid the ankle. Working out definitely makes it more sore, but I feel like I’m becoming more resilient. I figured I had my ankle for 23 years, prior to the surgery… it’ll take me a good amount of time to start feeling “back to normal”. So far, it definitely hasn’t but one can only hope. If I go into a foot pursuit of a suspect, I can do just fine and last a good amount of time (before my weak cardio starts to kick in). However, my ankle will be swollen like a sprain right after. The good thing is the pain is always constantly at a 7, so when you do hurt it like this, it bumps up to about an 8. Feel free to send me a message on IG @chrisjuly723 if you would like to know more or have any questions… best of luck to those needing the surgery! Hope this helps…

I severely fractured my calcaneus (heel bone) and am currently 1 month post op with a titanium plate and 8 screws. Although I knew I badly sprained my ankle after my injury, I also suspected I broke something. As such, during my initial ER visit, the first action taken was an X-ray which revealed my severely comminuted calcaneal fracture. It’s only now in hindsight that I realize all of the focus both on the physician’s and my part went to my heel fracture and the ankle sprain was essentially completely ignored. Because I only received an X-ray and no MRI at the ER, the sprain was forgotten about upon the fracture discovery. Sounds crazy but that’s just how it went. As I mentioned, I’m 1 month post op for the surgery to reconstruct my calcaneus but my ankle mobility is still severely limited and personally I feel like the majority of the pain I’m experiencing (even on pain medications) is a result of the sprain and not necessarily completely from my surgery recovery. I’ve expressed my concerns with my orthopedic surgeon and I’ll be getting an MRI soon. Hopefully I won’t need another surgery…

@@OFFICIALRover I was like 95% certain I broke something after my accident lol sounds like you might be feeling the swollen Achilles tendon from the sprain. You’re still very recently injured so it’ll take time for it to feel normal again, take it easy!
@somerled5513
@somerled5513 Жыл бұрын
Hopefully the sprain was not that bad (i.e. not a grade 3 or even 2) as I assume you've been very immobile following the surgery, and ankle sprains generally require you to start using the ankle almost immediately after injury. I once had a very bad sprain and was put in a boot for two weeks which I later learnt was the worst possible thing to do. Start using your ankle (conservatively) as soon as you can. I always said I'd rather break a bone than badly sprain an ankle or any ligament for that matter. Fingers crossed for you.

@@somerled5513 Thanks, unfortunately I spent a solid 2 months with zero weight bearing on the foot/ankle while the fracture was healing. I’m finally walking on the foot but now but my I’m having a lot of pain and severely limited mobility. I will possibly be getting this surgery done in a month (depending on insurance). I was hoping for regional anesthetic so that I could watch but the Doc says no. It looks simpler than I thought.

@@RyanArab the surgery is super chilled and I was able to go home the same day. I also had a nerve block so didn't have any pain until the following night after my operation and let me tell you it was bad! Looking back I should have been taking the painkillers regardless of the nerve block because it would have prevented the pain. It is important that I add that I have quite a high pain tolerance. The pain only lasted about two days and now almost a week after my op I don't have much pain but it seems to come and go. to be honest, the cast is super chilled and comfortable - in my opinion, I prefer it to the boot - Showering is not easy but I hate it when I don't shower so I managed to shower every 2 days because, to be honest, it is exhausting. I got a cast protector which makes a huge difference because wetting the cast is a no-go. Other things I would add is don’t worry about how you sleep. I manage to sleep in any position without my foot on a pillow and it has been fine - just remember to take your anti-inflammatory before bed and when you wake up - it makes a huge difference and helps with the throbbing in your ankle when you put it down. I only have my foot down for 10 min per hour and have been fine with that just remember to do so leg exercises for your leg and hip due to the lack of movement. other than that the leg scooter is a must and a lifesaver as your hands become so sore from the crutches! just remember that physio is a must and to not push yourself too hard
