What part of the river where you fishing that you found slack water at? I mean we fish Marysville, and we have to use 1 oz jigs all the time.
@kurtstracka18914 ай бұрын
There are slack water areas all throughout the river. We find them in port Huron to algonac. Stay out of the 30'. It exists from 17 feet on in.

@@kurtstracka1891It’s helpful for newbies to start out on SCR with 1 oz then work their way down as they get a feel for the bottom. 1 oz and 3/4 oz will catch them just as well as 3/8 oz and much easier to feel bottom especially further north on the river
@kurtstracka18915 ай бұрын
@baldodoesstuff752 we do start new to this vertical jigging fishermen on 1oz in deeper water. But this video leans twords the advanced fishermen. Trying to not bore and provide a new and not readily used technique

i use a VMC mooneye jig in 3/8 ounce in that shallow slack water. And color selection will be based on water color. (stain) darker colors for stained water and lighter ones for clear water

@kurtstracka1891 Жыл бұрын
I believe that someone had this fish on a plug and when the fish came off one of the treble hooks tore his gill plate. The guys in boats use alot of plugs or tadpolys for steelhead all winter long.

Which Fenwick rod series are you using on the Detroit river and the StClair river? What weight, length and action? Thanks
@kstracka Жыл бұрын
The Fenwick rods that we use are the HMG series in the 7'0" medium fast (HMGPX70M-FS). But these rods seem to run a little pricy at around $130. But we found some Okuma rods that i thing fish just as well if not better in the Reflexions series. The (RX-S-691Mb). Its a 6'9" medium fast action rod also. I think i paid $69. But i actually really like the Okuma rods for this type of jig fishing. Feel free to call or text me at 231-878-2520 if you have any more questions.
