By the look of the paint it's not long out of an overhaul/repaint. I have worked with steam cranes a few times as traincrew always impressive to watch

Loved watching the 'Black Fives' in action especially around Coventry in the Midlands and they really were the work horses of the LMR pulling either freight or passenger excursion trains throughout the summer months. Others classes too did their fair share in those days before lots of them were withdrawn from service which proved a sad moment for us steam buffs. Really enjoyed this small film from Yorkshire where lots of coal trains were seen to be doing all the mundane chores. Good seeing the little lad enjoying himself.

Our grandfather William Sharpe worked for Fowlers. In 1924 he sailed from London Turnberry Dock? to India with machinery to demonstrate it to either buyers or prospective buyers. However he died in Calcutta August 1924 of sunstroke and was buried there. As our Granny Sharpe was in a tied house,Fowlers gave her £50 and with their help she sought a new home and widowhood in Burton Leonard. Her daughter had died in the February of 1924.Our Dad was born in the October 1924 just 2 months after his Dad's death. An interesting story,and highlighting how strong our Gran was ,bringing up 3 surviving children on her own. All this just short of 100 years ago!

Moved from Skipton to Harrogate in 1967 - I was 7. I remember the Gala days very clearly. Mum and Dad used to argue over how to pronounce the word. "Gay-leh" Dad would say in his strong Lancastrian accent. "Gaa-lah" Mum would correct with a tut. "It's French or something..." We had a school float from Greatwood Primary. A Bedford TK green and shiny as a new toy, trundling through sidestreets in the quiet of morning, on the way to join the main procession; its reflection, bedecked with garlands and streamers, rippling across the bay windows of terraced houses; a cargo of schoolkids, waving and pointing, all in their Sunday best...

I remember this line being featured in Railway magazine's end of steam commemorative issue. It's nice to think that the track bed and the line is still in use and should it ever cease to be needed by the quarry there's a good chance that it could be taken over by the Empsay line and we could see steam on it once again.

There's me thinking of you standing at the side of the road filming the crossing of the Ribble, but of course there was no settle bypass when this film was taken. lovely piece of local history.

If you are adding sound in future, only BR Standard Class 6 and 7 and the early Standard Class 5s had chime whistles, and certainly not anything of LMS design like Alberta or Black 5's
@PeterEllwood3 ай бұрын
Sounds are from an old 45 of locomotive sounds. Not intended to be accurate. You have the choice of muting the sound as it is a 16mm silent film as captured by my father. More than happy for people with large sound library to spend a day or so adding sounds and to send me the final result free of charge of course! 😉

Great film(s), thanks! The shot of an extremely mistreated priiming 45095 (with the 4 on the cab side not cleaned!) has the quite tidily done naming "DER VLIEGENDE HOLLENDER", alias the flying dutchman, on the boiler side. Any ideas on reason/origin/length that loco carried that please anyone??
@BadRavenFPV3 ай бұрын
Between 1950 and 1960 45095 was mostly listed as shedded at Patricroft

Hi Enjoying your films immensely. Are you part of the crew as DOP? Your work is outstanding. (Perhaps videographer? Stills photographer? Or do you have access to the filming schedule when they are on location? Or do you get word from locals it’s on and go to the location to record?) You do a fantastic job. Lucky us. 🍀 Hoping you might have access atm since February 19 2024 I read they were commencing Series 5 filming. I’d love to be ‘lucky’ and visit in March while on a short holiday in the UK. How can I hear more of Kate’s beautiful music too please? Do you have instagram or Facebook to follow?

Hi, not part of crew. Just enjoy the series, the Yorkshire Dales scenery which is fabulously captured. These are all locations I know well. I don't have filming schedule but know a local who let's me know when they are in Grassington. I suspect that they like to use different parts of the dales each series. Quite a few scenes where in North Yorkshire in the last series and fewer scenes in Grassington to lessen the disruption and keep the locals on board. My nieces music is on Spotify and she is studying film and TV music production. instagram.com/katieellwood_music?igsh=cGk3eTZ3MTd0MWlv My film clips are just with my phone but enjoy putting the clips together. The between scenes is sometimes more interesting than the 'action'! I'll let you know if I get wind of filming in Grassington for series 5. Thanks for your comment!

One of the Standard 4s appears to have a double chimney. The only one I'm aware of with the small BR2A tender was 75029, which was bought by the artist David Shepherd straight out of BR service - it never saw a scrapyard. There were other double-chimney Standard 4s but they generally worked on the Southern Region and were paired with the larger capacity BR1B tenders.
@smhorse6 ай бұрын
The BR Standard 4 4-6-0 in the film will have either been 75019 or 75027, both of which were rostered to work the Grassington branch in the last two years of steam. 75027 is still with us, on the Bluebell Railway. The film also shows an Ivatt 4 2-6-0 working the branch, but I haven't been able to identify which one.
