seen this tour in soldier field with juorney and Peter tosh mick sprayed a fire hose to cool the hot summer crowd i was on the field and Lucky to be close enough to catch a few drops the place was full i cant remember who if anyone i went with, good times still have the stub

The historical references won’t entirely hit with the young generations in America. St. Petersburg, the Czar, Anastasia, Blitzkrieg, the Holocaust and the 100 year war. History moved on and American schools now focus less on the European experience. Yes Americans died in mind-numbing numbers in WWII, but the war was split between theaters. The Kennedy reference still hits and helps with context and meaning. The quality of the writing can’t be appreciated without understanding of references that are fading from American memory. The lyrics were brilliant and resonated with Americans for decades. Glad to see this song still getting love for being brilliant.

I was a schoolboy when this song came out. My older brother went to sea for a long time and I played his records on his record player. I played this song and sympathy for the devil forty times a day. The neighbors, of course, told my brother everything and I was severely beaten.
