I am not convinced it is the light, but it is not very likely the light heating the barmoeter is the problem either. See, this type of sensors uses a membrane with piezo-resistive elements on it. Piezo-resistive is a fancy word to say that the resistance of these elements depends on the stress they are subjected to. Anyway, these piezo-electric elements are normally arranged forming a Wheatstone bridge. This circuit has plenty of interesting features, amongst them it does a pretty good job of eliminating errors due to temperature. I have hear people arguing that the error might be due to the photoelectric effect. When pn juntions (transistors, diodes) get hit by photons they can let some current flow through them. Now, this effect is very directional and, in the case of silicon, it is most noticeable when lower energy photons are involved (high energy IR spectrum, red part of visible). The light of the toch seems to be produced by an LED and, unless it is a very fancy one, its spectrum will be shifted significantly to the blue. This together with the fact that directly below the hole in the sensor there is probably only the mebrane (which even though it is made out of silicon it has no juntions) and the rest of the conditioning circuit is under the metal can (i.e. the light from the torch hits it at an angle) means that the contribution of the photoelectric effect to the error shouldn´t be noticeable in my opinion. Also the temperature reading doesn´t change so if the photoelectric effect takes place maybe the temperature should go crazy too. The question remains, what is the true source of error? I don´t know but the fact that there is a correlation between shining a torch and seeing it increase doesn´t imply we have a causality relation. P.S. I aknoledge I could be completely wrong and I might have overlooked something. If you want to start a dicussion I would be more than willing to hear your opinion.

I didn't measure, but I think that it is only minimal. Horizontal resolution in this mode is 1504 px, which means, it is using 4512 px (as it is reading only every third column) of the sensor area. Sensor effective horizontal resolution is 5184, so it calculates as 1.15x crop. I may be wrong however. But still, the crop is minimal. Also some of the shots were taken in x3 crop mode. Hope it helps.

Hello, 600D, MF focused to infinity.

It means that I could only film about 3-4s of footage at that resolution and framerate due to hardware limitations of this particular camera. Since then, ML progressed quite a bit and now you can get at least twice amount of what was possible back then when I made this video.

Allright, I tested It right now with current ML nightly build and now I can get 360 frames at 1504x630px, 24fps, 10bit.

Fisherman Studios yep. But you can choose higher resolutions with higher bitrates anyway. But it will only last until the buffer is filled up. I'm filming only in 10bit raw on my 600D. I don't even remember when was the last time I used default movie mode. :)

Hi, probably your card isn't fast enough.. If you don't mind, try lowering a resolution a little bit. And also make sure you are shooting at 24fps, not 30. Hope that helps.

Can you recommed a good fast sd card? I shoot videos at 720 but the stops at about 20 seconds.

cam is Samsung WB2000 and to isolate the vibrations i used four steel wires (1mm diameter or so...), so basically the gimbal is hanging on them. Thanks for watching!

Maybe your card isn't fast enough. Anyway... 600D have a cap at 21 MB/s, so adjust your recording resolution according to that. You can use the latest nightly build for from ML website.
