There is another piano version of this movement by the jazz pianist Danilo Perez along with orchestra written and conducted by Claus Ogerman. It's called "If I Forget You". If you are looking for another (better imo) piano-led version I would highly recommend checking it out. Claus Ogerman's arrangement is truly sublime and captures the lyricism and movement with elan.

Pires is absolutely not a Great Pianist, in earlier days she played for the label Fontana and now for the commercial people of DGG, Her performances are not remarkable, on the contrary and most of time extremely boring. No, if you want to hear a fine pianists, listen to Argerich or Malofeev

She is very careful or better said cautious. I don't hear any 'sense of discovery' in her playing

피아노 학원에서 자주 듣던 그 '쉬운' 음이 공연장 내에 퍼지는데 순간 소름이 쫙 돋았어요. 단순해 보이는 것이 이렇게 아름다울 수 있구나 느꼈죠.

I am moved to tears, not only because of the timeless elegance, and eternal grace of Maria Joao Pires' musical spirit- but from a personal experience I had in my younger days: I had decided to move to Lisbon, from NYC in 1996. I was, and still am at 66 - a Bohemian soul. I just wanted to live there! I had little money, and practically knew no one there, but one day I made the short trip to the coastal town of Cascais...not far from Lisbon. I was walking on the small cobblestone streets in the commercial area, and saw this petite, delicate woman struggling with a mass of shopping bags. I offered her some assistance, and she looked up at me with sweet, pleading eyes - and said: "Yes! Please!". I had been in Paris visiting a friend a week earlier, and he had shown me a Deutsche Grammophon CD of Maria Joao Pires playing Chopin, and said I should know about her since I was going to Portugal. I recognized the woman before me as THAT Woman! I said - "Hello, Maria?" - and she: "You know who I am?...You are American?" I told her I was a Pianist. I am. And after loading the bags into her little car, she thanked me profusely, and offered me her personal mobile contact, and said - if I needed anything, please call her! Out of respect, I never did, but I never forgot her, and her effervescent kindness. She is amongst my favorite Pianist on Earth, and her interpretation of Chopin's Nocturnes are peerless! - In fact, I refer to her as - Maria Joao "Peerless"!

Also the joy on her face when she plays. 💜💜💜 Here's praying that everyone will have something you do or are passionate about or someone you are with who will bring such an expression of joy to your faces. :-) Thank God for KZbin. The joy and priivilege of hearing giants of classical music even though I am living in a very different part of the world.
