It makes my Day as a Person fairly new to BJJ. To see a complete Legend like Royce Gracie show this Technique. I think this is very similar to the Shoulder Lock Frank Mir used to tap Pete Williams. Only this was standing. Royce you ROCK !!!!!

For someone who has had proven technique this seems a little ridiculous. Let’s keep it real. BJJ teaches distances that are dangerous and safe. You are safe when you are out of striking distance and you are not safe when you are just in range of a fully extended strike from an opponent and when you are in that distance you have to choose between getting in so close that their strike doesn’t have enough room to hurt you or backing away where he can’t touch you. This just looks silly trying to fold your arm perfectly around his arm while he has a free hand that he obviously planned to strike you with since he is using the other arm to hold you in perfect striking distance. I love Royce but I don’t suggest this technique if you are in this position. Charge your opponent with both hands free and work for a takedown

I wonder if he teaches his students to hold their submissions even after the rep has told them repeatedly to release the submission and after their opponent has tapped he purposely tries to hurt people that’s fine if you’re in a street fight when there are rules you’re supposed to follow them Therefore I think he should be banished from teaching, he is such a lowlife

Wrong. Jujutsu is made for self-defense. Not sport. Plus the Gracie’s have used it in street fights a lot back then. It would be no different to use it now. You’re thinking about the sport version of Jujutsu. Nah nah. Japanese Jujutsu styles, Gracie Jujutsu and such all have self-defense effectiveness. I mean, unless you can prove us wrong with evidence you don’t really have much of an argument. The Gracie’s have street fights and no holds barred fights to prove the effectiveness.

Years ago on an attempted robbery, the bad guy suddenly grabbed me like in the film, but his elbow was not 180 degree open but bent like 45 degree which required quite different technique. He finally left without getting anything from me.

@@JIUJITSUMAN22Well more like a mix of Judo and Jujutsu. Maeda didn’t just learn Judo. He did some classic Jujutsu and catch wrestling before he came to Brazil. He taught his version of Jujutsu. Plus it wasn’t called “Judo” then. Kano didn’t change the name until 1925.
