Dear Sir, Firstly, let me disagree to the defence of chokcing by making a about turn an walk away. It might even help the choking hand and pose extra dangoer to your Adam´s apple. Let alone showing your back to the enemy . But your second motion, i.e. handling the choke from inside is a more viable solution enabling us to release pressure on our neck and, but here sidestepping would be better. Subsequent tthrows and submission techniques appear to be viable too. Depending on the time and dthe number of attasckers. However, with multiple opponents going on the ground could be fatal. Finally, to make it more comprehensive, performing the same at three levels, i.e elbow release of choke at level 1, then sidestepping and tossing the opponent as level2 and completingit with a two level aciton, for example with a throw in direction of the next enemy could make this presentation more convincing. Best regards. Paul, 68, retired instructor of Karate.

Dear Paul Thank you for your feed back. First for the turning back and walk away will always follow with back kick to the groins, knees or stomach, and you turning wile strangle is in stage of applying - not after they start choking you :)! Second when stepping back and taking control or the attacker wrist, with other hand you are also striking to the attacker neck, targeting vital pressure points. There are many other effective ways to protect yourself from two hands strangle too! Good bless 🙏

I studied Jiu-jitsu for a while a few years back, and one of my fellow students did this exact technique to defend himself against a knife attack; it worked, but the attacker was high on drugs and wouldn't go down until the student broke his arm. Then the pain was enough to get him to fall. He held him down with one arm and called 911 on his phone with the other, and was able to hold the attacker in place until the police arrived and took over. The attacker ended up being changed.

I watched a Gunnery sergeant strip a dude of a knife using a similar takedown in theatre. Not movie, in combat. It's possible. Remember these arts came from a culture that did this for a thousand years. Japan was at war for a millenia. Judo? Jiu jitsu, karate... HEMA has similar tactics.

Sorry guys, hate to break it to you, but Liam Neeson, is actually a Black belt in Taekwondo & informally crosstrained in others for films. So it's not the greatest MA in the world. But to say "He has never" when a quick Google can confirm or refute a claim. The lesson here is... Don't assume, check first, confirm your statement before you make it. Im not trying to be a dick, In fact for a minute I thought you were right, then I remembered he did some martial art but couldn't remember what it was. I had to confirm myself. So... Yeah, just be mindful and confirm yourself. It avoids arguments too, because a fact is a fact. Be awesome.

Lol! A hay puncher is very easy to fight against. You need not block his punch, avoiding unnecessary impact. One is to lean back, and counter after your assailant misses his mark. Second is to side step and sweep his legs. Third is to side step, and push the assailant's back after he rushes past.

Oblique kicks as a counter are definitely effective but the idea that someone, even an untrained attacker, is going to stay in the same position long enough for me to block and then strike in two separate movements is really unlikely. Parrying and striking needs to happen simultaneously because the target will inevitably move.

When at 4:43 you say to "grab the knife", do you really mean the blade? Because as you said, when you cut yourself the body goes into shock, and grabbing the sharp blade of a knife is bound to do that, even if you're careful enough not to cut to the bone
@EZMotionSimpleSelfDefence

You always grad the knife from the top - opposite side of the blade, so you don’t cut your self. If you look closely the video you’ll see what side I’ve grab the knife when I’ve removed from the first attacker. All fell in place then you grab the knife hand and move to wrist lock.

What would be an effective variation of this technique when one is pinned against a wall? Stepping back/out of the choke wouldn't really be an option then. I guess the second movement shown could work, but I doubt that anyone would be able to actually pull it off when they're in real danger due to lacking reflexes.
