My favorite song during my childhood days (1963 -1965) in a Chinese elementary school. Now, nearing 70 years old, I still love it.

It took me numerous takes because my hands were shaking so badly from being nervous, but I made my video and submitted it too, with my colorful nurse attire on. I'm looking forward to seeing how this is all put together, seeing everyone else, and hearing the rest of the song. It's wonderful to be able to be a part of such a cool project! :)

I was in Karlsruhe and so emotional through the entire show, thinking about the past 10+ years and everything that had happened since I'd last seen you and got a chance to quickly chat with you after the show at Bix Jazz Club in Stuttgart. I'd been in the middle of handing in my phd when we saw you in Karlsruhe this time, and having finally done that, I am looking forward to more active climate work and getting back to art. I'm never getting tired of listening and singing along to all your songs while drawing and painting, it's just pure energy and inspiration to me. So thank you, and I look forward to everything you'll do in the future. Hope I can get that video snippet for We Got You to you very soon. Take care ❤

My perspective is that it is about the asymmetrical-but-mutual relationships of support between communities and the people who advocate for them (people that you might call "activists").

A very fair request! @LukeSciarappa put it perfectly: how communities both carry individuals in moments of need, and in turn need individuals to carry them through the work to be done.

I am generally shy but I may try this out! Regardless I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product ! ! ! I didn't used to have a favorite singer, just a lot of singers I liked at a 10, etc. Ever since I randomly stumbled upon your Lullaby For A Stormy Night, you've been my absolute MOST FAVORITE singer ❤❤❤ You will always be the best Vienna! Keep up the great work ❣

Robots and computers are not instruments. This song has been produced by artificial intelligence, the very robots and computers and technology designed by Teng. It sings about the role of technology, how it controls and influences our lives. How we are under surveillance, monitored, watched and heard. But in reading comments about this hymn all I heard was how beautiful it was and how marching bands have adopted it as their theme. Not a word has been said about the lyrics or the story behind the song or about the company, Acxion who collects all your personal information while on or off line and sells it to retails. Thus generating $$$billions from your personal data without your knowledge and/or approval. “Somebody hears you,” “someone is gathering every crumb you drop.” Where is the protest, where is the public outrage ? Instead we have marching bands and choral groups! Even Vienna Teng is silent on the issue of her own song! This is no different than what the secret police (Stasi) in Communist East Berlin did to its citizens. Watch the movie, “The Life’s of Others.” Could easily be called, “Acxiom”today.

Utterly beautiful, and so much more compositionally advanced than 99.99% of what solo songwriters do.

You can hear it, like at 59:24, but this angle doesn’t show people on the staircase and in stairwell crowding to see her. I was at that show, and in fact had booked a different series of local artists into the courtyard of The Varsity, for example, Nyree Belleville and Michael Halaas of Stanford performing as “the girl and I” and I was quoted in The Metro in a review of that show I believe by Yoshi Kato saying something like “Vienna Teng is Tori Amos for people with 1400 SATs”

Wonderful choreography - not even listening to the words, just feeling the music and watching the movement leaves me feeling inspired and optimistic (not an easy accomplishment these days!). Thank you! I hope your show in Richmond is well attended.

This video makes me want to jump for joy! The energy is incredible - Vienna's voice is pure power, and the dancers are captivating. It's so inspiring to see them move through different spaces, representing all the challenges and breakthroughs on the path to growth. The lyrics are pure fire - "Come out, you've been waiting long enough!" hits me right in the feels every time. It's a fantastic reminder to take that leap of faith and embrace new possibilities. I absolutely love the sense of community in this video too. Seeing all these different people coming together on that rooftop at the end just fills me with happiness! It's a beautiful message about how we can all support each other on our journeys of self-discovery. This song is a total mood booster! Thanks Vienna for such a powerful and uplifting piece! #LevelUp #Inspired #NewBeginnings

I crawled down the rabbit hole trying to figure out where this video was shot, using the windmill in the video as a start. The windmill that poor Mr. Lovelorn walks up to appears to be an exact match for the Marymoor Windmill in Marymoor Park in Redmond, Washington. Redmond is a suburb of Seattle best known for being the location of the Microsoft Corporation's headquarters. As a longtime resident of Seattle, I should have been tipped off sooner by the dreary gray gray skies. :) The distinctive brick base of the windmill confirms the ID. Some of the scenes in the video might have been shot on Marymoor's Heron Loop Trail, but that's just a guess. Discovery Park in Seattle would have been a reasonable place to find a driftwood beach, as would Myrtle Edwards Park or maybe some place out on Vashon or Whidbey Island. The dress Ms. Teng wears was made by Maggie May Clothing, who blogged about the work they did for the video. Based in Tennessee, they do a lot of work making historically appropriate clothes for film. This set me on wild goose chase for an hour or so hunting down all of the Dutch windmills in Tennessee, Alabama , and Georgia, of course none of which were a match. They've disallowed linking in comments, but you can find pictures of the windmill by searching for "Marymoor Park Windmill" and you can find Maggie May's commentary about making Ms. Teng's dress for this video by searching for "Maggie May clothing Vienna Teng."

Answering the question for the idly curious: the scenes with the piano were shot on Whidbey Island, not far from Seattle, in Washington State. The Internet Wayback Machine has several blog entries from the filmmakers and from Teng with amusing stories and pictures involving the production of this video.

Hi, I’m the DP for this video. I can’t remember exactly where the first part with the harbinger waking up was shot but I want to say Cape Disappointment. The main beach shots were shot on Double Bluff Beach on Whidbey Island. We had a hell of a time dragging that piano over all the deadwood in the bitter cold. Other shots like the water in the hands sequence were at a private residence on Whidbey. The windmill was indeed at Marymoor Park and the sequence towards the end where he’s digging a hole and emerges was shot in Pine Lake Park in Sammamish. We didn’t have permission to dig that hole so we had to shoot the scene stealthily and fast lol :)
