I have the Focus Pro with the Irix T1.5 set and it tracks perfectly at T1.5 for me. Using it with a C400 and it compares to the C400 + RF L series 85mm f1.2 when focus tracking. C400 has more focus options other than people, and low light is better when native Canon AF glass.

Attention : It’s actually not correct that you can use DJIs larger handgrip batteries. They do fit the Focus Pro and they even work somehow BUT they actually have a higher voltage than the B20 battery which they sell with the Focus Pro. If used with the larger batteries this can destroy the circuits of the Focus Pro. DJI hardly documents this, but the focus Pro system even gives an incompatibility warning when connecting the bigger batteries

My Experience - Cannot replace a good human focus puller. Cannot even replace Sony AF-C. It is a good first iteration; subsequent iterations need to match or be better than the Sony AF-C, especially how smooth the focus response. I have had the DJI Focus Pro Creative Combo for 2 months now. #1 - not as good as Sony AF-C with the Sony a7S3 or the A1. #2 - Wide is much better than Flex Spot. #3 - Battery life sucks (as I record 5 hours straight) but the expansion plate (DJI or Tilta) will work for a D-tap power supply. #4 - Focus response must be at 1 otherwise it looks robotic.

It’s weird to me how some cine lenses don’t work at all, even lenses with normal close focus. They definitely need more calibration points in the software
@Horizons_Roses
@Horizons_Roses 4 ай бұрын
Yes, if you look at the 4D the first firmware were asking for 3 points, and the latest only two just like the Focus Pro. I don't see DJI putting much effort or aknowledgement on this system. I'm afraid its all gonna be "we sold it and we forget about it" a no further support.

@@Horizons_Roses @raildude270 Yeah agreed, hopefully they add in more & adjustable calibration points, but until then it's somewhat limiting unfortunately.

@@Horizons_Roses They could not care less about their product support. I've got my first unit mid summer, and after using it for a week I've made a post on DJI forum with suggestions - like cables too short, 300mm calibration limit is stupid (hello zoom lenses), inability to switch between MF/AF/AMF all at once, run/stop support issues etc. They didn't reply even once, despite a lot of people said that those are the issues they had also, and one doesn't really need to change the product hardware at all - cables can be made longer, M button can be mapped to all 3 modes in software, 300mm limit can be raised to 500mm etc. Even more focusing calibration points can be made. But, unfortunately, DJI is a deaf company that doesn't care at all about customer needs.

I’d love to know how you go about rigging the LiDAR module with matte box etc
@tuckerkanderson
@tuckerkanderson 4 ай бұрын
@@workingturtle3701 for sure. I attached a 15mm rod on top of my camera going out over the lens and extending to the mattebox. Then I attached the lidar camera to that, so it just peaked above the mattebox enough for it to see the scene. The only downside is that you then can’t use a flag with a mattebox to cut out flares, but otherwise it works great!

You gave us very deep insight on how this LIDAR system works with the cinematography with comparison of manual and auto focus. It could be a game changer for the cinema rig if doing well. Thanks for the great video !

Love this. For object tracking, you have to put it into flex mode and click the trigger to lock the focus tracking. Works great dependent on the object. The LiDar is actually suppose to work even better in low light, cause lidar doesn’t need light as it’s working on a different spectrum of light. So it may of been your settings!
@tuckerkanderson
@tuckerkanderson 4 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching and for that info Cam! Interesting to know about the focus tracking. Can it lock onto a particular part of the frame like DJI's drones and track it the same way? For the low light, I thought the same thing (that it was supposed to work well), but I just found it to be hunting way more than in normal lighting conditions. I just kept the settings the exact same as when it was working fine during the day, so not sure what I should've changed there. Just sharing my experience, but maybe I wasn't using it entirely correctly!

@@tuckerkanderson Tracking large object (cars etc) is good, for tighter things or close up, just simply forget it. That's my finding as well, even with the flex mode and the click, it just can't track well. You mentionned 2 types of battery, on my unit, if I use a larger battery (a RS4 pro one) I got a message that says that I cannot use this battery otherwise I will damage the unit. You don't have that ?
@tuckerkanderson
@tuckerkanderson 4 ай бұрын
@@Horizons_Roses yeah that was my experience as well, no luck getting it to track small logos etc. For batteries, I didn’t try using a ronin battery, I just know we had a smaller one, and two larger ones that all worked fine with it. They did look very similar to the ronin batteries but I’m not sure about compatibility as I didn’t have one to test.

"cause lidar doesn’t need light as it’s working on a different spectrum of light." what? No, lidar doesn't need light bc it shoots out infrared, it takes in that information and then focuses based on what it receives. In other words lidar doesn't need light bc it uses its own light source
