Last year, the experiment did not work for some students. I thought it was the cabling or dodgy photogates. This shows that the first thing I need to check is the computer set up. Thank you for explaining the set up

Thats pretty ! I like it . It reminds me of that teleportation device depicted in the bible and other ancient texts , of a circle within a circle . Like the one in the Jodie Foster movie Contact 💪😇🙏💖

I had a new 8" f/8 Criterion deluxe Dynascope purchased new in 1967. A beautiful scope with great optics.

It was a beautiful scope. I saw one on display at the Hayden Planetarium in New York City and it was gorgeous.

Thanks for this video. A real blast from the past for me. As a young teenager I was able to buy a used Dynascope with paper route money. That would have been some 50 years ago. I loved that scope but had to sell it once I married as there was no room in the apartment.

I had one in the 1990's. IT WAS FANTASTIC!! WHAT A GREAT TELESCOPE! Living in the Virgin islands at the time. Great seeing, low light pollution, and views into the southern hemisphere like the southern Cross! Did quite a bit of work rehabilitating the scope and customizing it, but man it was great. Good views of the comet that impacted Jupiter (can't think of the name right now). Great views of deep space objects, and no problem looking directly down into the domes of lunar volcanoes I think if I were ever to buy a mansion with a built-in observatory, a large Newtonian would be my first choice! Okay, a little bit of maintenance and collimation required, but no problem that's kind of part of the fun 😃

Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 back in '92. I will never forget that night, I was out with a 4.5" reflector hoping for the luckiest sight ever! Was not to be though.

I still have my Dynascope which I inherited in 1979 from a schoolmate of mine (Henry Phillips) who had passed away. I have put a larger focus tube on it and moved the mirror forward to get the film plane in focus for photography, but it still works. Thanks for the post. Pat, in Chicago

How are the mirrors? Have you recoated them?
@FrederickHiggins4 жыл бұрын
The mirrors are pretty much flawless. I have collected a couple of spares throughout the years. I have had them recoated at least a couple of times. Highly recommended clausing.com a company out of Chicago

@@FrederickHiggins Thanks. I was just curious. Reason is I have a 32 year old Tasco reflector. I have been told that mirrors need to be recoated every 10 to 20 years and was wondering if it was needed and worth doing.

What is the best way to polar align? Is there any place to get the drive motor repaired or replaced? Thanks
@horaciodortona5745 жыл бұрын
I remember the first time I saw an RV-6 Dynascope in Sky and Telescope magazine in the summer of 1976 I was star struck and the the $229.95 price tag was astronomical totally out of reach. Through the generosity of my parents I got one in 1977 and I've kept it to this day 42 years later. In the 80's I purchased a C8 which is a wonderful telescope compact and powerful and in the 2000's an apo refractor which are all the rage and understandably so with their razor sharp optics and high contrast images but the RV-6 gives up very little to either telescope and like a first car it has a special place in my love for this endeavor.

@davidwalsh20205 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video, I just got mine back from my brother. I am retired now and want to get back into astronomy. The scope is in bad shape. I don't remember ever learning how to use it correctly. Do you have any tips for setting it up to track the stars? Any tips for taking pictures using it? Thank you
@zedbear1 Жыл бұрын
Make sure the mount and pier are level and aimed at Polaris with tube straight and adjusted for your latitude. I use a torpedo level against the left side of the mount, held tight to the bottom of the mount sliding up the pier pipe if that makes sense. The north star (Polaris) should be in the center of the eyepiece. If so you're ready. If not readjust the mount. (As long as you're close it will work fine but may require frequent adjustments to keep the object in the field of view.) Once level, I use a compass and a thin square board about 4", with at least 2 sides parallel. Hold compass against the outside of the board and inside goes against a flat spot the mount (good luck!) and align north. I feel this is the most accurate, but these mounts are forgiving on polar alignment if you're observing. For photography, the alignment needs to be precise. Good luck and I hope you enjoy observing with it.

Downloaded the Stellarium 0.18.0 today and it does not have the option under Plug-in for time zone. I cannot figure out how to correct the time because it is not getting the correct time and zone off of my computer. Using the Time & Date icon, the window that comes up has Julian Day beside the Date & Time part of the window. How do you get it to show the correct time in your area?
