I'm starting to wish all highways would get reduced to single lane in each direction roads, and quad track rail would be built in the middle of the freed up space. Put the roads in a trench and lid them around stations to allow pedestrians to move.

Went yesterday and the ticket counter was not a thing at the time, you don’t go to casa Bonita for the food… For me atleast, it was fun! Had an 11am ticket in the generic line and I was sat in the corner. I understood that because it was just me and I wanted to eat and go have fun. The puppet show or the magic show in the theatre were probably my favorites thing. All in all I spent close to $50. Food and 1 margarita+tip. If you’ve been to the old casa Bonita, they had unlimited food and sopa pillas. I accepted that I didn’t come for the food. I came for the experience. And that experience was worth the money.. they made the area adult friendly with jokes but very kid friendly as well.. it felt like an adult Chuck E. Cheese but with a side of south park without the cussing. Wow.. this is the first time I wrote this long of a commment.. have a goodnight. Like you I did record everything inside. Video will be out eventually.

It is not quite as simple as running on existing tracks. At the bare minimum stations are going to need to be developed and some capacity of parking etc (or better TOD but that is a different convo). This, as is most freight lines, is very wiggly and squiggly as freight doesn't much care about speeds. Passenger rail speed reigns supreme. This looks like a logical corridor but likely best to do some sort of hybrid where it splits off the old tracks to make stops downtown/at stadiums. I like the idea of nationalized rails but in all reality encouraging private companies to 2-track and electrify rails with tax incentives or some kind of cost sharing might be easier and more effective. How it integrates with the airport ride would be one factor that would impact ridership. Your schedule would likely need to be reworked. Trains running at 6, 7, 7:30*, 8, 8:30*, 9, 9:30*, 10, 11, 12, 1, 2, 3, 3:30*, 4, 4:30*, 5, 5:30*, 6, 7, 8, & 10 would probably yield better ridership. The ones with an * would be an express option weekdays only skipping the intermediate stops. Add in special event trains coordinated with sporting events, concerts, etc. Lastly, and maybe most importantly, if you really want to maximize the value of something like this the goal should be a lot higher than 100 year old technology. I'm not saying it needs to be true high speed but you really want to target at least 125 MPH peak speeds. That way with stops and areas with bad geometry you can maintain close to 70 MPH. And this would require pretty extensive deviation from the existing tracks
@ttopero27 күн бұрын
RTD LRT is all about where they were allowed to build, not where it is best and most appropriate-you’ll see that on the PR (R line). What you didn’t mention was that the stroad that had the crosswalk to the ped island, was the end of C-470 on the west side, the loop surrounding 3/4 of the Denver metro. That right turn lane is better known as a “slip lane” to keep traffic flowing at a higher speed than making a 90 degree turn, making sure that the traffic from C-470 northbound onto either direction of US6 don’t have to stop-notice the flyover to westbound US6? For this reason, that it connects to US6, C-470 cannot be truncated as you suggested.
@JkWillis26 күн бұрын
I understand that the purpose of that turn lane is to keep traffic flowing, I just think it isn't necessary, not to mention the danger it poses to pedestrians and cyclists. Overall the entire highway setup in that area is way too overbuilt. 470 would only be cut short to end at I-70 if 6th is converted into a 1 lane road as I talk about here. A major highway ending at a smaller, lower speed limit road wouldn't make sense so that's why I brought it up. Besides, Denver has always functioned fine without a complete beltway, it's never been of major importance.

@@JkWillis unfortunately, CDOT thinking doesn’t parallel those of us who use or would like to use our common spaces even outside a personal, private vehicle. Anything designated as a CDOT controlled highway will never shrink back to one lane in each direction once it’s been expanded (E Colfax BRT isn’t losing lanes, just shifting uses). It is overbuilt but it won’t change unfortunately.

i live in the denver metro area and I am SO glad that there is someone putting RTD, and Denver, to the sword for this absolutely heinous land use. In my opinion, the land use in Denver is absolutely THE #1 thing holding it back from being a great city. The whole region has been choked by highways and stroads for decades. Things seem to be moving very slowly in the right direction, but it needs to happen 10x as fast if we want to undo all the damage car-based infrastructure has done to our city in a reasonable time frame. Great video, you have earned a new subscriber.

the only mode of transport that is truly free in NA is freight trains
@ronclark972429 күн бұрын
Don’t oversell this project. There will never be enough passengers for the foreseeable future that will ride a front range train every hour in both directions. So don’t try to spin this as a regional train with high frequencies. Commuter and light rail within the Denver area barely supports trains with this frequency during non rush hours, and slightly better frequencies during rush hour. I see maybe 4 or six trains a day being possible, morning, noon, and evening train in both directions. More money would be spent on trains, maintenance shops, crews, and station platforms than on extra passing sidings the freight train operators will demand. Additionally, there are some advocating for regional trains on the Tennessee Pass line east of Glenwood Springs. I doubt Colorado could afford to do both at the same time - especially with high frequency, low to no emissions trains.😊
@JkWillis29 күн бұрын
So, as someone who uses RTD Light Rail quite frequently, the main reason why ridership is lower than it should be is because the land use around most of our stations is absolutely horrible, a topic I've made several videos on. With the right land usage and density around stations, the Front Range Passenger Rail will easily support a stable high ridership. Colorado should strive to make rail transit its primary form of transit, and having an infrequent and unreliable train service will not incentivize people to take the train over driving.
@brosobroАй бұрын
Appreciate you visiting and taking the time to evaluate our transit system. Though I have to say, much of what you've suggested has either been tried and failed, or hasn't been tried for good reasons. While the RTA is pretty good by American standards, there are numerous political and financial challenges that prevent it from becoming as robust and cohesive as area transit advocates would like. If the good ideas amongst yours were possible, they would already be done no doubt.

In Utah and seeing green golf courses during the worst of the drought a couple years ago was infuriating. Definitely convert Sante Fe Dr to a regular low capacity road. Convert intersections to roundabouts, but I definitely wouldn't put any parking on it. Slow it to 20mph for about 1/2 a mile through the new development. Move the highway to Federal, it has enough room and looks like a stroad anyway. Cicero is pronounced "SIS-sir-row" after the Roman senator of the same name. As for the station names, it can be confusing to out-of-towners to have so many stations so far apart with the same names, but we homegrown Chicagoans are kinda used to it. Possibly, the only change I'd make is renaming the two Western Ave stations on the Blue Line to "Western/Milwaukee" and "Western/Eisenhower Expwy." Otherwise, people can refer to "the Western station on the Brown Line," or "the Western station on the Orange Line," etc.

The four most densely populated municipalities in Illinois are suburbs (Chicago is #5), there are hundreds of thousands of people who live within blocks of transit, silly to call it car dependent sprawl (yes, there is sprawl on outskirts). Metra is primarily a COMMUTER rail line, not rapid transit. There would not be people hopping on Metra trains in most areas every 15 minutes. Some of your suggestions are how the trains used to run in the past. The CTA was only formed in 1940s, hobbled together from formerly private lines. You totally missed the pedway, an extensive underground system connecting many buildings, train stations, etc. and used often in the winter. On station names, Chicago is EXTREMELY easy to figure out, it is a big grid and always shows how many hundred blocks. Every eight blocks is a mile. No one would get confused about a street on total different sides of the city and most locals immediately know how far West/East/South/North of major streets (Western is 2400, or three miles west of State as example). Just by hearing an address it is easy to know where something is located. Is no different than multiple stops in NYC at same streets but different lines.

With this, reopening Racine and building a station at 59th/State feels extremely necessary. Brown Line: I would merge it with the Orange Line. Pink Line: I would extend it to Harlem and close Kostner. Green Line: getting rid of the Englewood Branch and extending it all the way to the Obama Center while building an infill station at Dorchester or University. Yellow Line: opening one more station (maybe Asbury) would be great. Blue Line: I think it’s fine. I wish there was a line running from O’Hare to Midway, tho.
