I feel like the pale garden is an interesting concept but not enough for me to play a vanilla world. Also, just an fyi, I would limit your frame rate to whatever your monitors refresh rate is. Having 500+ fps does nothing but light your gpu on fire if your monitor only runs at 60hz.

I haven't got as far as you but I think you might be able to get amethyst very quickly using AE crystal growth accelerators, check out EP 8 of ChosenArchitect's FTB genesis series. About 19 minutes in he builds a farm for certus crystals, I'm not 100% sure but I think it might also work for amethyst, if so it's insanely quick! Great series btw

Nice series! I recently started playing this again too having shelved it a few months ago. My old world wouldn't load into the 2.1 update so I decided to start again, I wasn't as far down the line as you so it wasn't a big deal. I could have maybe fixed it like you did but I wanted to try some new ideas out anyway. Since I have infinite fluids activated (for lava initially) I decided to also make an infinite (10kb) shimmer lake since it seemed easier to do that than to try and automate shimmer production, I had to pump out around 5-6 lakes which took a couple of days so your way was probably quicker in the end lol. As for automation in general I'm building a smart factory which is inspired by TangoTek's create series although it works in a different way. TangoTek has a linear system of processes which crafts new items from materials produced upstream. My approach uses a central bulk storage facility/warehouse, processes like crushing, blasting, washing etc are located outside. So to make sand for example, the crushing plant requests gravel from the warehouse, crushes it and sends the products back. If the gravel store drops below a threshold then that will automatically get produced from cobble in a similar way etc. Basically each plant can handle a lot of different materials at the same time, the crushing setup has 4 pairs of crushing wheels and can crush up to 8 different materials, usually it's only making one or two so it's pretty quick since it uses round robin to spread materials over all four crushers. I'll probably need to crush more than 8 items eventually so I can just build more plants as and when needed. I am making use of some potentially laggy components like tunnels, item filters and conveyors etc but I've not noticed any significant issues so far. The plants shut down when not in use so the only conveyors that are running all the time are the ones comprising the input and output buses between the warehouse and the surrounding plants

You probably already know it, but void upgrade on drawers = shift-rightclicking a lava bucket on a drawer. Only do that when the drawer is at max capacity (or the capacity you want it to be max). Shadow drawers: say you have a long wall of drawers with some instances of amethist in them and you want to have one central point to insert or output amethist, you can use a shadow drawer. It combines the numbers of all the same connected items in the drawer, so it would show you all the amethist in your system. That allows for cool (but bulky) storage systems that are mostly hidden but only showing their shadow drawers. I hope I can explain this correctly.

Love the episode! While I realize for you it may have been frustrating, for me it's very informative to see you overcoming the problems the update gave you, and learning to work with the updated recipes/features. However, I don't mind you skipping the rest of the footage and going back to building new stuff. Your machines are really nice and I like how you keep lag into consideration (most youtubers don't). Love your content! It's hard to find good youtubers who play the newest version of Astral, and as you have already noticed, there are some changes 🙂 Just wondering about some thing though. 1. Why not use the new stone growth chambers for i.e. cobble and andesite? They are a lot more resource efficient (lag friendly), which matters with Create, even when you aren't on a multiplayer server. 2. For limestone, why go the milk route? It's a bit convoluted. Why not use the honey-lava limestone generator? Please keep up the good content, I'm enjoying it!
