Is it suposed to twist while you make the sgitches of the rows?

It can twist. You have to move it around as you make the stitches around the circle so they stay straight

When I join the yarn in a circle it becomes loose as I’m going around for first row. How can I fix this

You can add an extra stitch and thread the tail through that one and pull it tight and that should help keep your circle and then it’s about keeping the right tension. Hope that helps!

Probably too tight as it gets bigger. I lay it on the floor periodically and make sure it’s laying flat with the right tension

Yes it has to have the middle hard plastic, that’s what melts together
