Hi Zacky, I saw this film without knowing what its all about sitting in my Dad's Lap in a theatre in 1962-63 Bombay which is a shopping Mall now... Now this B & W film is being colorised..Many scenes like the Lady taunting a Man in the Life boat for smoking & also the Hat Burning scene to Signal the Carpathia Ship..Mmm Not Bad..

The 58 version sticks so much closer to the actual tragedy that given the 40 years in between it actually puts Cameron's to shame. Plus no Jack and frigging Rose. 😊

(To the questions of it not splitting) I have one of the original 1912 books of TITANIC and in it they recorded hundreds of eye witness accounts of people watching the ship split in two. Illustrators also drew what some of the witnesses say they saw and posted the images in the book of how it split in half, all vary but all very clearly prove the ship did split. And this book was published in 1912 so there is no excuse for the time gap of finding the wreak decades later after the film came out, they knew the year of. I own the book so this isn't disputable. And if any argument was to be made "Well eye witness accounts" can't be put on film then i guess they can't show the ship sinking either since that can't be proved outside of "eyewitness" accounts to. So lets not go down that road. 100s recorded themselves saying they watched it crack in half. They have illustrations in the 1912 book of it cracking in half...so no excuse to not feature it.

There was conflicting testimonies against what happened that night Alot of passengers saw the ship break, and alot never realised it and believed it sunk intact. You have to remember it was a moonless night and the waves were calm. Even with the lights on, the Titanic was incredibly hard to see. And when the lights went off before the split? It was basically just a big black empty box against the black night. Basically trying to make out the Titanic and what was happening was near impossible for alot of witnesses That combined with the focus on trying to survive and the overall mayhem, meant alot of passengers never saw it split and testified it sunk as one. And it was these testimonies that was believed over the others against it, especially since at the time scientists claimed it was impossible for it to have split. Obviously now we understand that is false with better knowledge but at that time it was a huge debate on if it split or not. When there's conflicting testimonies and scientists at the time disproving the idea, can you really blame the filmmakers for not having it split? I sure don't

Not that it would have mattered (i.e.; temperature of the water), but watching this movie as a child made me learn how to swim! This movie, in which the late David McCallum ("The Man from U.N.C.L.E") also appeared IMHO did a great job at documenting this tragedy.

Great cinema effects for the time. I remember watching this for the first time as a child of the 80's. Then I read the book, A Night to Remember by Walter Lord. I read it before they even located the wreck of the Titanic. That was in 1985 I believe. The guy who found it was Robert Ballard. From Wood's hole on the East coast. He found the wreck of the Bismark too. Fond memories all around. All around a really good movie here.

No, James Cameron did not copy this film. Remember that this is an actual historical event. BOTH films followed the descriptions given in the testimonies at the White Star Line hearings.
