this inspired me to come up with my own little scenario, I call it: "The honorable Wars". Basiclly there is a country in which two families feud (mostly over power over said land, but their family values are so vastly different from one another, that they disagree on everything). Now, during a ring riding tournament (which is a real sport in Denmark) one of the houses loses against the other one in the finals. The losing individual feels so dishonered and shamed that the annamosities grow and during the evening a full on brawl ensous between both sides, leading to some pushing and shoving a dirtied piece of expansive cloathing and a decleration of war. I thought about playing this out with some painted up wooden blocks, but ngl: 2mm miniatures sound cool too
@jamesathertonytАй бұрын
That sounds great. It's always good to hear about what other wargamers are doing.

I think you need some ammo depletion rules. Arrow storms don't last forever. Of course that's an issue with many of our rules when we want to keep things simple.
@InterplanarerPennersoeldner65Ай бұрын
What System are you playin?
@jamesathertonytАй бұрын
Yes, I agree. Which is why I do have ammo depletion rules. I simplify matters by recording things at the army level, rather than at the figure or unit level, which is a compromise, but one I can live with. More details on the rules I use, including the ammo rules, can be found in the "Rules for ancient, medieval and fantasy wargames" and "My new early medieval wargame rules" videos elsewhere on the channel.
@gernwind9262Ай бұрын
@@jamesathertonytRight. I probably have watched that rules overview before. So it's on the halflings. Should have waited/fallen back into the shrubbery and forced the elves to close in themselves.
@gernwind9262Ай бұрын
@@InterplanarerPennersoeldner65If you're asking me, I'd probably simply use one of the Rampant games in this case. Doesn't bother with ammo either, but circumvents the issue - sort of - by cancelling your activations half of the time, so you might be more inclined to risk the charge into the open. Or my own mod of the "Portable Wargame". Would need ammo rules for pre- modern as well I guess. I only used them for 7YWs myself, with only two ranges: relatively short range musketry, the same for everyone involved, and artillery that's not all that effective pre Napoleon. So our issue hasn't really come up there yet.
@jamesathertonytАй бұрын
@@gernwind9262 Yes, I think with hindsight that would have been the more prudent course of action.

This is pretty darn cool. I might have to go and watch the previous videos. I have some questions though, what is the scale of the maps? On the map of Elvesgrave, Applevale and Greenglade, are there more towns and those are just the bigger ones or are they the only settlements?
@jamesathertonytАй бұрын
The scale of the maps is 1 square = 20 miles. Or so. More or less. Only the bigger towns are shown on the map. There will be lots of halfling villages scattered about the place - or there were, before Eldaron burned them all.
@johnscarr70Ай бұрын
I've promised myself I'll do the same. You will not be disappointed!

Another fun and entertaining round of Halfland videos. Would love to see a new campaign of Gangland Gunplay.
@jamesathertonytАй бұрын
That's good to know.. I might well do that at some point. Next campaign is going to be a knock-about sort of Robin Hood thing, using Gangland Gunplay type rules but feudalised. And of course Halfland will continue.

It's awesome to see how different factions adapt to one another, both geopolitically and on the battlefield. Very well done;I'm super excited for the next episode! Keep it up!

Solo RPG game called "Space aces" defines characters in simple ways: * Skills must have values 3, 2, 1, 0 and -1. Skills are: * Approach problems directly head on * Approach problems indirectly with an angle * Apply thinking to problems. * How well character is equipped * Charm to influence people. The game is on PDF and creates very complex adventure with only a 1D6. It is an indie game, so I would suggest to support it.

Dungeon Crawler Classics (DCC) makes magic dangerous. You cast a spell, but it can backfire and hurt you. So there is that sense of gambling with your luck. Also, it kills that ridiculous outcome of a spell being more accurate at aiming than an arrow. Level 0 characters is how you start, and they die in flocks.

There's a sabaton song with footage of elves and armies that is epic, playing quietly in the background perhaps? Not really suitable because of the visuals and your reading intonation is sufficient and plentiful to impart the drama but a fun diversion if you choose to search it out
