I always recommand « Le Petit Nicolas » by Goscinny (and drawings by Sempé). It’s suitable for elementary/intermediate learners and the style is very conversational/colloquial.

The reading is not helpful if one is still trying to understand the basic pronunciation.

Phonetics is not for full beginners. It’s important to have been exposed to the language for some time before trying to work on phonetics. Besides, this video focuses on one aspect only and is not meant to teach “French basic pronunciation” as a whole.

Thanks to the native french speaker to prove my presumption that the pronunciation of /ø/ would be the actual sound for E in french instead of shwa.

The Shwa is nothing else but half an [ø], a short [ø] if you like. Just like [j] is half an [i], and [w] is half an [u].
