Was part of the 1985 ACDA choir in Salt Lake City for which this piece was commissioned & conducted by Rutter (not the whole concert, just his three pieces, this, Fiddler Man, and the one about the talking scarecrow). This is very near what we did, except perhaps our bass section was a bit more robust. Great work!

Thank you for the beautiful performance. It's honourable to sing this hungarian song from memory. Your pronunciation is so cute: dzsöndzs (gyöngy), kucsa (kutya). Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Do you know what you can yell to a choir until you die? You're too loud! You're too loud! You're too loud! You're too loud! You're too loud! (Some people think of singing as shouting in tune!!!!) But, you're singing too loud! That's what microphones are for!!!!!

I can appreciate what you're saying ( in a way ) in most choirs it is difficult to have a balanced harmony as the Sopranos have a tendency to be louder than the others, especially with their higher notes... One of the H.S. choirs I was in, we were well known for adding that little something 'extra" to certain songs...our director had us memorize the lyrics of each song to capture the essence of the song...so we could "feel" the song... way before we started rehearsing... we closed every concert with this hymn... when we got to the Amen... it was like we were singing waves... as we would make good use of the fortissimo and pianississimo ending as a faint whisper and a hum... the link below is the closest I have found that did it like we did...although we were a bit more intense .... click on the link and take a listen ... kzbin.info/www/bejne/moaTdWRnmLqJfMk

This arrangement is a little too much of a departure to be worthwhile. It's barely recognizable and lacks the soul of the old chanty... It's a shame too because an ensemble of that size could really have made a great rendition of such a tune.
