Both endings are masterpieces. They are the only conclusions I could ever see happening to a series like Evangelion.

People who seek comfort in Shinji are weak. He is whiny, cowardly, illogical, perverted, and has no character development. Guts is the true best example of how you should find your reason for living. Guts in the Fantasia arcs reason for living is protecting his friends, Casca, and avenging the band of the hawk. Vs Shinji whose reason for living is not existent because he’s scared of pain. Guts does not shy away from pain but embraces it as something that strengthens him. Shinji is a bad character to seek refuge in.

It’s a shame this video hasn’t been seen by more. This was an excellent analysis of the show and you really can hear the passion in your voice for what you love. As a fellow massive fan of basically all this riot, I really enjoyed this. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the new season!

This video was really good. Put into words my feelings from watching the culmination of the Haruhi story, the disappearance of suzumiya harhui. The anime that got me into and being interested in Japan, Japanese langauge, and Japanese culture. It will always have a special place in my heart.

When I first watched EOE I thought that Asuka was disgusted that Shinji couldn't even manage to follow through with strangling her.
@mattmaddogwheaton4724

I'm more thinking that reason for Asuka saying "How disgusting" would be that she more feels disgusted with both herself for how she treated Shinji and Shinji for jerkin' his gerkin on her.

I know in these comments section I’m outnumbered and sadly there are way too many animes with awful endings but by far the worst ending I‘ve seen is Neon Genesis Evangelion. The rumor is they ran out of money and you can really see it over the last two episodes and even before that. They reused so many scenes and had so many stand still pictures with people talking but nothing moves. The two last episodes are an insult to every fan though. It has almost nothing to do with the rest of the series, doesn’t conclude any opened story line else than the main characters depression and does it in the cheapest possible way. I watched it multiple times and really WANTED to like it but it’s impossible. Ofc. there are enough people who like the ending because they WANT to like it and they over interpret all kinds of things into it despite just not being there. It is ok to imply things and let the audience think for themselves to a certain degree but this was just a cheap escape. When they got some money back they tried to wrap it up in a better way but even that was done through multiple movies of which about 2/3 were just cuts of the series. Just cheap and disrespectful to their fans. It’s a shame because it started somewhat strong with an interesting build up but just to disappoint. PS.: What is your opinion about the seeming need of anime creators always to put in at least one extremely annoying and childish character who makes the anime almost unbearable to watch even if everything else is super serious and it just doesn’t fit. These characters are almost everywhere.

The problem with the ending of the series is that we go straight from Shinji killing Kaworu at the end of episode 24 to reality having immediately collapsed from the start of episode 25. We get a line from Gendo to Rei about how Instrumentality is about to happen but we don't see them actually do anything to initiate it. It's just suddenly happening without any explanation. It makes no sense unless you have the context provided by watching EOE.

Spare me the melodrama that heaps sorrowful events upon its characters like a child throwing toys in a tantrum, only to magically sweep it all away in the end. If this is what passes for a good anime today, we are in serious trouble.

Just finished Clannad and it got me screwed, really teared up which makes it one of the few animes I have enjoyed and even cried to. Since it's also one of my first few romance genres anime. I enjoyed this anime and didn't expect this anime to be like that. The comments itself is making me want to cry because I remember all the moments and how this anime itself is teaching us about life and reality. Glad that I found this anime somehow I definitely do not regret watching it and it really has changed my expectations in finding these types of anime. Thank you Jun Maeda & Kyoto Animation Studio! Masterpiece indeed thank you.

The ending basically tells us that our reality is based on how we perceive it and how we see it if we see negative our reality is negative if we see it as positive it is positive it all depends on our vision and our perception of reality and also the eyes by which we see them as explained in the alternate ending seen where everyone was happy because they simply saw others and most importantly THEMSELVES differently and positevely, We can always see ourself and others differently and more positively and this positive attitude makes our life heaven this is more powerful than a SUPERPOWER and i honestly loved this ending❤

Coming back here, on a related note, I'd venture that it is clear the musical interludes of during the "Death" half of Evangelion Death & Rebirth are happening after the ending. The world is restored and the four (Shinji Ikari, Rei Ayanami, Asuka Langley Sohryu, & Kaworu Nagisa) are enrolled in a new school in New Tokyo 2.

Just want to say that every Detail and the whole Impact is included to the end After i watched this anime i begun to get to know every Religion ans what their Main Point is That the Soul, the Organisation wants to become one is Just a Metapher for the endless searching from everyone to connect with Others and especially for Love God is Like the inner peace where u can finally understand who U are But the Word god is problematic Some gurus explain it as to be The easiest Thing of all but also the hardest To let Go of your thoughts ans your believes In budshism this ist the Main Point to become Others Religions mirrors this believes but in a way thats Harder to understand in my Opinion The tree of life in the opening has seraphs in it Each represent a Point that you have to master to become god or to step in His direction The opposite is the earth the thoughts The AT field is also Just a Metapher that represents our fragility as Humans Its a Safe place in one Hand but also our prison I think but thats Just my thoughts on the Soul There are many really rich and powerful people in it but they never found their complete Feeling about theirself so they want to Bring freedom for their Heart This inner search is an influence that you can See with capitalism and Other human behavior in the real world

As someone who got into Eva on vhs and saw Shin Eva in imax on my 40th birthday, they're both perfect for a different stage in life. If you waited since the 90s for Shinji to get a truly happy end (i guess you can turn eoe off before the beach?), esp if you've had any chu2 tendencies, Shin Eva was a revelation. As for Mari, who is NOT Moyoko btw, I saw her as the best "starter" option. Asuka is way too screwed up. Rei's a clone of his mom. Kaworu is too obsessed with him for a healthy romance. Misato will always be Kaji's. Mari is a fun, low-maintenance girl who'll probably let him do anal and won't nag. Then he can go find someone else, like most of us do. The motherly part of me was glad, even after shipping Kawoshin since before the milennium.

I just watched all of evangelion and EoE for the first time. I was really disappointed with the end of the show because while I love me some character development, I really would prefer it would be done through the plot and not just in Shinji's own head. Imagine if we just go into Darth Vader's head in an abstract world at the end of Star Wars or something instead of him killing the Emperor. I had absolutely no idea what Human Instrumentality was and wanted to know what happened to everyone else. Although, after watching EoE, I can appreciate it more because I understand where it fits in with the plot.
