Lieksa is known in Finland as a city of loss of migration and as a former industrial city, and a movie or maybe a few have been made there. I forgot to mention earlier that there are some great places for tourists to visit in the city, which I have visited myself. There is a chef training in Lieksa and a baker / confectioner training in the neighboring town Nurmes. However, there is still a message for international students visible on the website. Sure, you can, but applying for admission and applying for a study permit are two different things. The school decides if you’re admitted, and the immigration authorities decide if you get a study permit. All conditions must be met. You need to have sufficient funds to cover your living expenses, and bringing your family along significantly increases the required amount.

Congratulations on securing a place of study! I am delighted that you are the fifth person to get a spot. Two have been accepted in Kuopio, two in Joensuu, and you at YSAO in Iisalmi. Iisalmi is on my list of places I want to visit. As far as I know, the city has only a few immigrants, but it is known for its strong international companies. I believe you can find part-time work with these companies during your studies. Iisalmi is an affordable, peaceful, and green small city, perfect for living and studying close to nature. One advantage is that everything is within a short distance.

I couldn't find the age requirement on LAB's website, but typically, most higher education institutions in Finland require applicants to be at least 18 years old when they start their studies. I recommend contacting the school directly for confirmation. The application period for LAB has already ended if you're applying from abroad. However, nursing programs are available at other schools, and the application period opens at the end of August.

I completed my last degree when I was over 40 years old. I already had a degree under my belt, but I wanted to learn more. In Finland, people are encouraged to study regardless of their age. These English-language studies are considered adult education because you need to be at least 18 years old, and the programs are flexible, lasting 2-3 years. Previous work experience and education are taken into account when creating a personalized study plan. In standard youth education, the study period is three years and the curriculum is the nearly same for everyone. In Finland, we talk about lifelong learning because the job market is constantly evolving, and even those who are already educated or employed benefit from updating their knowledge periodically. After completing these studies, there are still opportunities to pursue further education or take short supplementary courses. Thank you for your kind words!

It’s true, and I enjoy going out into nature from time to time. Fortunately, in Finland, you can freely explore the outdoors. You can swim, pick berries, gather mushrooms, and hike in nature without restrictions.

I can only speak in general terms. I believe everyone should be able to do what they truly love and are passionate about. Not even money can replace that. At 40, it’s not too late to study for a new profession. Perhaps experience in banking could be beneficial when starting your own business. You would have a better understanding of finance, billing, accounting, and the value of money. Maybe there has been customer service and sales experience as well. These skills can also be useful in studies, potentially allowing you to get credits towards a new degree. On the other hand, the banking sector is surely hectic and can feel like a rat race. For some, it might be a joy and a blessing to use their creativity in the skills of a pastry chef or baker.
