Why would we have to hold the handle down until the toilet flushes? Its not your standard flush & go.
@Ucanplumbing5 күн бұрын
No you do not have to hold the handle down for a long time to flush this toilet. Holding the handle down was just to empty out the tank to do the replacement of the gaskets. I hope I have answered your question. If you have any other questions about any plumbing concerns please do not hesitate to ask.

Nice video. Unfortunately mine has a slow leak that comes up too regularly, even after replacing the flaps and with nothing on the drain part you note, that is completely smooth. I can sometimes fix this for quite a while by manually pushing the seal around a bit and pushing it down, but the problem can come up later, especially if it drains lower than normal. Really an annoying problem! No obvious leak, but something is leaking since it is refilling a bit every so often.
@Ucanplumbing15 күн бұрын
If your water is below the overflow and it stops leaking after you adjust the gasket. Then unfortunately that tells us it is the gasket. I wish I had a better answer. This flush Mechanism is overly precise. The 4 pack of gaskets that I ordered the first one I took out of the package felt lumpy to me. The next 2 in the package felt much smoother. I think those gaskets should be made out of a softer rubber to give it a better chance to maintain a good seal. How many new gaskets have you installed?

@@UcanplumbingI have gotten the leak to seem to stop by moving the seal thing around a bit and pushing it down, so I am fairly sure it is the flapper seal now. Really annoying! I just took it out and looked at the flaps and they seemed straight, but not perfectly so. And these are "new" black ones. This one of 3 in my house also has a hard time proper flushing many times, even with the water flow! I am about ready to just buy a new toilet, in spite of that cost.

@@Ucanplumbing What I thought was the gasket at the true bottom, But the drainage stops seemingly at the level of the left (black) drain part. I have replaced the flaps multiple times. I felt the surface but don't feel any rough surface. I may replace the whole mechanism and perhaps everything if I go to the point of taking the tank off completely to do that. I just have to figure a full kit to do that. The reviews on Amazon indicate the gaskets are not in the set of replacement parts, even though they should be full. I only got this toilet because I thought it would be better. The one in my master bedroom has never worked right. Too bad replacing it is not cheap....
@Ucanplumbing11 күн бұрын
What I would try before complete replacement: Turn water off to toilet. Flush toilet let all the water drain out of the tank. Make a note of the water level put the lid back on leave for about 24 hrs and see if the water level drops. If it does then you confirm that there is a leak lower then the 2 flappers. At this point i would send a email to American Standard and see if they will send you the parts you need, or even a replacement toilet. Another viewer said he had so much trouble, they sent him a new toilet. When did you purchase the toilets. I agree these toilets are too expensive to have this much trouble with. But at this point i would send American Standard an email and see what they will do for you. Please let me know what the results of the water level test.

@@Ucanplumbing I have had it off for more than that time now and it stops draining at what seems to be the top of the black flap bottom. I got a "wall camera" for my phone I will use to try and see if I can see there better. Hard to look closely with my phone camera otherwise. Are you saying to just replace the black (and perhaps the other) assembly? It did seem to stop refilling a few days back when I was trying to get it, so I don't know if the fill valve is off too. That seems unlikely to be the leak since it is only water coming in and the drainage is not 100% nor onto the floor.

i have same toilet and have to say it flushes very good but they always leak that dual flappers wear out so quickly i would def not recommend this toilet but if u do, buy a bunch of those silicone flappers and keep them on hand i have to change mine at least 2 to 3 times a year they just don't last i have some toilets in my other bathrooms still have original flappers and 20 years old

Sorry i have not replied a flu ripped through our house all 5 kids my wife and I got sick. I thought I was getting away without catching it but I did and have not been that sick in awhile. But lets get you fixed up. Has this new toilet worked properly when first installed. If it did work at first it can only be a couple of things. 1) Make sure both flappers in the tank have there floats, check all the little chains that they aren't broken and that everything is moving the way intended. If everything is good in the tank then: 2) When you flush the toilet does all the water leave except for the water swirling around the bowl or does the water level only drop a little? I will upload a video showing how the water in the toilet should look when flushed. I will get that video online by the end of the day tomorrow.

Good video. Here's my problem hope you can help me. It takes around 4 flushes before the bowl clears I've tried priming it again it doesn't help. Do I need new parts like you had? Or is there an adjustment I can do? Thanks anyone for a reply

Does your tank fill all the way up to the fill line. If it does fill all the way, when you flush does it empty all the water or does it close quickly?

@@Ucanplumbing Fills to top and closes quickly it takes between 3-5 flushes for bowl to clear. I have primed it per instructions twice

When you flush does the water in the bowl rise and then slowly drain? Or does it immediately create a little whirlpool.

Awesome video. This is exactly the issue with one of my toilets and this helped with with the process of replacing the seals and I was able to fix the issue for about $13 instead of $35 or $70 depending on what replacement parts I would have purchased had I not watched this video. The biggest problem I had was getting the flappers removed. It was hurting my finger so I tried a thimble and was not able to apply enough pressure. I ended up using a pick from a set of automotive picks that I had gotten from Amazon for around $10.

Sometimes i will put rubber dipped gloves on to add a little more padding to my fingers. but sometimes they are on so tight you need a little help. Thank you for leaving a comment. If there is another project i can help you with let me know.

I definitely have to clean the drain every time. My drain has cross piece that the hair gets caught and wrapped around. With this tool I don't have to pick it out with my fingers I can use this and in about 10 seconds have all the hair cleaned out. Thank you for taking the time to comment.

When replacing a handle; do you have to shut off the water for the entire house first ?
@Ucanplumbing7 ай бұрын
No you do not have to turn the water off to replace the handle. When you go to unscrew the handle hold the handle tight or the water will turn on. If you don't have enough handle left to hold onto attach a hose so you don't get soaked when you undo the screw. After you have old handle off you can shut the vale off by turning the part the handle was connected to. Turn to the right. Hope that was helpful. If you need anything else please let me know. Thank you for watching my videos. If there are other repairs you need a hand with please let me know and i will do my best to make a video.
