In 2020 i contracted Covid 19 and was on ECMO for 6 and and a half months and was given a 3% chance of living. I've been suffering the results of ECMO it obviously saved my life but it left me handicapped due to the nerve damage to my right foot and leg.

So yeah, you don't have to list every undergraduate degree in your title. Of course you have a BA or BS and a two year associate degree. So does everyone with an advanced degree. Jesus

For purely ethical reasons, the ripcord should have been pulled much earlier in this case. The colleagues must have been aware of the outcome much earlier.

It's a big problem in modern medicine. Only because you can, you don't have to. Ethical questions are lame and boring, but should be considered everytime something like an ECMO is to be used.

One thing that stands out to me about this tragedy is the calmness and lack of compassion in her voice. Basically is it what it is, deal with it attitude. I can’t imagine the number of deaths she had to endure to look at these pictures and not show much emotion. Poor patient was a Guinea pig on a table bleeding out. God have mercy.

She’s giving a presentation and literally questioning if hospitals are using these machines too much to the detriment of patients. She’s giving information, not a testimony.
@DJFennessy2 жыл бұрын
Doubt it. Her accurate description of the situation and reaction indicated to me that she was very present during this terrible tragedy. She mention “we” in her speech indicating she was part of this disaster.
@2goblinsinatrenchcoat2 жыл бұрын
@@DJFennessy no. She’s representing the hospital, hence why she says “we”.
@DJFennessy2 жыл бұрын
@@2goblinsinatrenchcoat Be realistic. When speaking or writing, “we” refers to yourself and one or more other people. Clearly, she is referring to herself and her co-workers, as she describes her experience during this sickening event.

I was an ECMO specialist before and I do not trust in ECMO. Mortality rate is very high even with ECMO and patients usually suffer with many unnecessary medical interventions done. Patients at that point were literally treated as an object. It was horrendous and miserable death coming. What truly blew my mind was when families would ask if ECMO was "some kind of a life support device", or "but he's on ECMO, why isn't he getting any better?".

Hmm, I wonder why he is trying so hard to make UF look bad for the last several yrs?... What could be his agenda, and who (industry) could be incentifying this red herring about UF and AKI suddenly… UF has been a very safe and useful tool used in Cardiac Surgery for Fluid/Volume management for over 40 years now since the 80’s, and don't you think that if it was such a major problem that it would have been drastically brought to the fore front by now and openly condemned... Watch it again and ask yourself why he needs to scare Perfusionist from using one of their most essential and time-tested tools to make way for something that Perfusionists don't want from EU? I say a strait forward open “PRCT” Prospective Randomized Controlled Trial study is needed to put this insinuation of UF leads to AKI to rest once and for all, so propagandic material and presentations can finally stop and the true agenda can be seen by everyone. For those that want to really understand more visit the online JECT Invited Commentary to the article “Zero-Balance Ultrafiltration during Cardiopulmonary Bypass Is Associated with Decreased Urine Output” by Alfred H. Stammers in the Journal of ExtraCorporeal Technology J Extra Corpor Technol. 2021;53:27-39 This article on ZBUF ultrafiltration is the 3rd in a series of large database retrospective observational articles from the current authors that are reaching to relate ultrafiltration with an increased risk of AKI in “CPB” patients using a linear mixed effects regression model for its statistical method. All the three articles primarily point to the “Michigan Experience” article as the main reference and source of evidence that was itself similarly a retrospective observational article that used a generalized linear mixed effect model with a logit link for its statistics. The discussions of these articles are self-perpetuating, extending the same argument over and over with essentially no patient characteristic matching and weak support in condemning UF.
