If I am correct, 120 inches requires 5 panels. But with an overlap of 1/2 inch per panel, will I need an extra panel (6th) to accommodate the (2 inches) lost from each panel overlaping?
@Americantinceilings3 жыл бұрын
The Backsplash panels have a 1/4" nail rail around the perimeter, so you will pick up about 1/2" rather than lose it. I would still order 1 extra panel to allow for mistakes.

Can you glue your wood ceiling?
@Americantinceilings3 жыл бұрын
The Nail-Up panels and crown molding are typically installed into a wood substrate with 18 gauge brad nails. Alternatively, you could use a construction adhesive along with the nails, we recommend PowerGrab by Loctite. Turn your pressure down to 25 psi so you don't blow through the tin.
@angelamanzo2083 жыл бұрын
I have to thank Jacob at American Tin for being so dismissive after I spent time filling out all the design request info on their website and uploading pictures...I did get thrown one tiny bone, a suggestion to convert the grid. I need 2x4 tiles instead of 2x2, so I ordered some tin color samples and PVC samples from another website and was shocked that visually you cannot tell the difference at all. The PVC is much easier to work with (can cut with scissors), the design choices and colors are endless, the price difference is negligible, and I'm confident I can do this whole project myself especially since I don't need to convert the grid. Big mistake to let people figure this out lol.
@Chilledogg2 жыл бұрын
Just curious about installing the PVC. I tried this before and the contact glue was challenging to use and nearly took me out! Plus, I had to strip the ceiling of all popcorn before installation. Did you have a similar experience?
@DampRaccoon Жыл бұрын
Visually, you often cannot tell the difference between many quality materials vs cheaper alternatives. I looked into PVC initial as well, but there was almost no cost savings. I couldn't imagine spending that much knowing I just covered my ceiling in plastic. Oh and if you can operate scissors, I would hope you can operate the tin ships 🙄

Using this method, you'll most likely end up with partial tiles at the end of the installation and your ceiling won't look symmetrical. Is this not a concern?
@Americantinceilings3 жыл бұрын
Every ceiling is a little different and very few people have a ceiling that is 8' x 10' or 12' x 16', where a 2' x 2' panel fits perfectly. There are several ways to address this concern. I would start by selecting a pattern that is appropriate for the room size. Then determine if you want to run the pattern edge-to-edge or border with a Filler panel. Question to ask yourself: is there a focal point like a light or a fan that needs to land in the center of a pattern or where the four corners meet? You will get the best results with planning. We do provide guidelines on our website but you can always call us for layout recommendations or the pros & cons of one panel type vs. another. If you're using our Snap Lock panels, then you do have to start in a corner. It's easiest if you start with a full panel, but you can start and end with partial panels to keep the ceiling design more symmetrical.

What is a “brad nail”? Can I use tac nails and tap them in?
@Americantinceilings3 жыл бұрын
Ultimately, it is the construction adhesive that holds the backsplash panels onto the wall. Nails are sometimes used to clamp the panels tight while the glue dries. An 18 gauge brad nail has a head about the size of a ballpoint pen, but any small headed nail will serve this purpose. We also have decorative, cone head nails that can be used for this purpose. They can be found here: www.americantinceilings.com/cone-head-nails/

I was wondering if I can install tin tile over existing textured ceramic tile... and if so, what would I use for gap at the ends on the wall? The builder of this home used the same tile as the floor... ugh!
@Americantinceilings4 жыл бұрын
After the ceramic tile has been sanded and wiped clean, you can use Liquid Nails Polyurethane Construction Adhesive (LN-950). It is available at Ace Hardware, Do It Best Hardware, Fastenal Company, Tractor Supply Company and True Value Hardware, or PowerGrab by Loctite: www.loctiteproducts.com/p/pg_ca_ult/overview/Loctite-Power-Grab-Ultimate-Construction-Adhesive.htm. As for the gap, you will have to use a small wood molding that can be painted or stained to match the cabinetry.

Nail-Up panels and Crown molding can be installed with an 18 gauge brad nail; turn down the pressure to 25 psi so you don't blow through the tin. So if the furring strip run along the ceiling only one way, 12 inches apart, that means you can only nail every 6 inches along the sides of the tiles that run along those strips, right? On the sides of the tiles that run perpendicular to the furring strips you can only nail every 12 inches (so on a 2' by 2' tile, on each corner and one in the middle). Do I have this right?
@Americantinceilings4 жыл бұрын
That is correct.
