I wanted to know how to smile properly. I’ve just landed my dream job and school photos are coming up and it’s my first job in the teaching sector so I want to make sure I look good. I’ve always been insecure about my smile - I’ve got a gummy smile and have been told that when I smile, I “look Chinese” (which is a whole other issue considering I’m very much white but my Gen x/boomer family are the furthest thing from “PC”). My eyes crinkle when I genuinely smile and my family points it out constantly. I’ve trained myself to relax my eyes but it’s never good enough. I’ve changed my smile so often that I’ve forgotten my natural smile and have no clue how to do so.

I hope you don't mind me teaching you a bit of Hokkien (modifying it to a Lam-oa accent). :) house chores - you could say tshù-lǎi-sit hate the most - you could say siōng gêr-sîn when - just like "的时候" in Mandarin, in Hokkien it would be "ê sî-tsūn" excited - there's not really a word for "excited" in Hokkien, just "happy" I guess, so "hoaⁿ-hí" scared - you could say "kiaⁿ" ke-si - yeah that means "furniture", she wasn't sure if they were there to buy furniture or not never - you can say “m̄-pat” nervous - you can say "kín-tiuⁿ" whole life - you can say "tsi̍t-sì-lâng" 幸运 - you can say "hó-miā" Btw, I found it heartwarming listening to your grandma speak because my grandma came from Tsioh-sai which is just nearby, and their Hokkien accents are very close, so this reminds me of her. :)

My grandpa passed 18 years ago and I missed him very much.

Happy 8th anniversary to me ❤️ This day always creeps up on me, but when it comes around, I’m so grateful for the chance to really celebrate myself and reflect on my journey. 8 years ago today, I created my KZbin account + this IG account and announced that I was starting #ProjectALIFWIN (Acting Like I’m Famous When I’m Not). I wasn’t trying to go viral or grow a huge following, I just wanted the push to be my own number one fan and to do whatever made me happy-even if I was scared out of my mind.

And so I started to post videos and photos. I wasn’t particularly skilled at the things I’d film myself doing (hair, makeup, outfits, cooking), but I had so much fun turning my little visions into a reality. I remember the many times I’d be shaking with anxiety before and after I posted something. I was so nervous and felt (and still feel) awkward when people would bring up my social media in real life. But I kept going. And the more I grew into myself, the more comfortable I became with being vulnerable. I began sharing my honest thoughts and feelings online, and even began making videos featuring my loved ones. 

I started this “project” to have fun and to document my own life… and had no idea I’d still be going strong 8 years later. And I certainly had no clue that so many others would find their way to my little corner. 

I used to always say that my dream goal in life was to leave a positive impact on others, and since I was a kid, I had planned for teaching to be my way to achieve that. But as many of you know, my time in the classroom didn’t last very long. But through this lil hobby of mine-oversharing my life online lol-I’ve realized that I’m able to still meet to my goal. And the craziest part is that I get to do it by… just being myself 🥺 Thank you to the 22,000+ lovely people who have joined me along the way. Although I started this for myself, there’s no way I would have continued without the love and support you all have given me. It really means the world to me. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Here’s to sharing more of my #intentionalandimperfect life 💛
