Still have a cream colour Baretta I bought new in 86 . I Use it in some recordings when needed . The stock seymour pick-ups are super chunky with some wicked gain for heavier riffs . I would never sell it but I see the prices rising substantially for these originals . Nice to see a vid on these nice work .

The JBJs are not a different pickup than the JB. They are merely JBs that were wound by Maricela Juarez. Maricela wound the majority of the JBs in the 80s, so the majority of 80s JBs are JBJs. They are not a different model, they were the standard JB of that era.

I don't know how many times I watched this series...so glad of an additional tutorial...pls keep them coming. May I ask how you are getting that incredible tone..is it amp sim, real amp and pedals? Can you advise your setup please?
@FretlixGuitar2 ай бұрын
I’m glad you’ve enjoyed the Hendrix lessons :) So for the tone in this video most of it is the guitar tbh. I had the pickups custom built for me in Italy when I was on tour over there. The guys had sourced all vintage components and hand built these amazing pickups for me. For the Amp I’m using a Kemper Profiler with a Michael Britt profile of a /13 Amp, no speaker just straight into my interface(Apogee Quartet). I added some Waves plugins, CLA comp and a Puigtech eq, with a sprinkle of spring reverb. Hope that makes sense?
@emannaquilina63312 ай бұрын
Thanks for the details and great info. Can I ask you for details of the supplier of the pickups pls?
@FretlixGuitar2 ай бұрын
Of course, they are called ZD Explosion pickups from Italy. However, I’ve just had a look for them and I’m not sure they are still in business. I was lucky enough to be one of their first customers as they were friends with my guitar tech. If they are still going they are really top guys. They came down to my gig and basically overhauled all of the wiring etc in that strat adding their pickups for me. In the video I used the out of phase sound neck/middle position so even if you don’t manage to get the same pickups hopefully you can get a similar sound :)
@emannaquilina63312 ай бұрын
@@FretlixGuitar thanks a bunch and yes it seems no longer existing as google is not returning anythin. Great idea on the out of phase. Thanks to answer and always your subscriber as this content is really helpful for such a genre.

I believe that you assumed a high input impedance pedal ? What about the placement of low input impedance pedals ?
@FretlixGuitar2 ай бұрын
Hi, great question! Yes, I would assume high impedance for this set up. The video is aimed at usual suspects of volume pedal brands Ernie Ball, Dunlop, Boss etc with their more flagship models most of which (I think??) are high impedance. I haven’t actually tried this with a low impedance volume pedal. If you have one try it out and let me know what happens and how it all sounds as I’d be interested to hear the results :)
@MyJ2B2 ай бұрын
@@FretlixGuitar I have a passive Daphon Volume Pedal (Lo-Z-in Model) that I place after a Holy Grail pedal (High Z-in, low Z-out). The volume pedal then feeds my guitar amp (Hi Z-in). This works fine in this configuration. It is not recommended, however, for direct connection from a guitar (lo Z-out) with passive pickups. That would drop the audio signal level "at birth"! Make sense? NOTE: There is a high Z-in model of the Daphon volume pedal. It would work in the situations that you described in the video. To our viewers - Beware of the spec of the volume pedal that purchase (Hi-Z-in seems more versatile).
@FretlixGuitar2 ай бұрын
Hi, I’m not familiar with the Daphon gear but I’m gonna check it out. Yeah, that makes sense. Have you tried a pedal in the chain with a buffer? Or a dedicated buffer pedal? It may help, or not. Often with signal chains in my experience there are ‘correct’ or ‘preferred’ ways of doing things but nothing beats a bit of trial an error :) It’s ia very good point you make to the viewers if the video. If you are looking to buy a volume pedal then Hi-Z in certainly seem to be more versatile. I’ll also add that in experience of using different volume pedals no two brands sound the same or react the same. Volume pedals are notorious for sucking tone and the ‘sweep’ or ‘swell’ varies from brand to brand. If you are total tone purist but you want to add a Volume pedal to your rig I recommend using some sort of switching system such as the gigrig or similar and sticking it in one of the loops - that’s what I do for gigs. Or you can experiment with buffered pedals :) We’ve opened a can of worms :) Thanks for the great and interesting comment!
@MyJ2B2 ай бұрын
@@FretlixGuitar Who would have thought that adding a simple pedal-driven potentiometer would cause so much discussion and potential sound complications! It might be time for a new generation of volume pedals with buffers and signal processing "smarts" ! You have the electronic skills to do it! A Fretflix Volume Pedal is born...Thank you.
@FretlixGuitar2 ай бұрын
I love this idea! The Fretlix volume pedal, no tone loss, a perfect linear swell, buffered, all at a reasonable price :))
