Interesting, from several points of view, to see this unboxing. Comments complain that it comes in cardboard. Cardboard is, however, easier to recycle and works just as well as timber if carefully designed for strength where required - as this appears to be. This piano is a 9’ grand, capable of an immense projection of sound - sufficient to easily fill a concert hall. Of course it is able to be played quietly, but could easily overwhelm listeners in a typical living room space. A bit like owning a Ferrari and only ever taking it to the local shops in first gear! Another complaint is that Enspire owners, unlike Spirio owners, cannot play and edit midi from a tablet: Anyone like me, serious enough to edit midi as I do for my Enspire DC5ENPRO, should have a dedicated computer - laptop or larger - permanently wired to the piano, adjacent to the piano. This allows access to many more sophisticated editing apps than available on iPhone or tablet and obviates the need for importing and exporting files, as files are edited and played from the same source computer. Selecting, playing and controlling from the iPad or tablet is not compromised by the connection to the larger computer. Nevertheless it could be a welcome advance to have the convenience of a simple-to-use Yamaha devised editing suite on the iPad or tablet.

I see this as a good home studio instrument and occasional gigging instrument. It isn't a very portable instrument, not at 48 pounds. And for stage use, Yamaha has other models, with more hands-on controls.

I have an old austrian piano that is a grand but has the hammers oriented like an upright. The tuner had never seen something like it before. Whats up with that?

I have one of these. Whilst it has an excellent sound, it is poorly regulated. Some hammers do not align properly with the strings. The damper springs make a loud metallic sound when using the sustain pedal. The key downweights are high and inconsistent key to key. Some of the notes blocked and the capstans needed adjusting. Some of the keys are creaky when pressed as the capstans need polishing and/or lubricating. And one of the notes has a very high pitch ringing which cannot be sorted. And yet it is signed off by the Pearl River technical director. In addition all three attempts to contact Pearl River asking about the pianos guarantee in the UK have been ignored. So, beware.

Amazing instrument. I will buy one of these when Yamaha develop a user-friendly interface to amend midi recordings similar to Steinway’s Spirio R which has an iPad-based editing suite. I have it on good authority that it is in development at Yamaha but that they are very slow. Recording on Cubasis or the Enspire app and then exporting and re-importing - which is what you have to do now to edit the midi file - is a complete pain (I have the Enspire Pro system on my S4 Disklavier).

Double corrugated heavy duty cardboard. It looks smaller on camera than in reality. Total weight is 1500lbs or 680kg.
