So sad he and Laz are gone - I wanted to get in touch with Laz for a collaboration but it was so hard to find anything about him. With Steve I had some chats but only for 2 years, then he died :(

Back when Whitby was Gothy, this was 2 years before we went in 2008 and had a wonderful time. Went the following year as well. Then had a 5 year (unintentional) and when we returned in 2014, just did not have the same 'vibe'. Went the following year in 2015 and not been since. Then WGW lost the Spa venue so we will probably not bother again. At least we went 4 times but I do wish we had started going sooner, would have gone perhaps 7 or 8 trips if we had. It's just a costume party now.

Used to go in here when it was a Goth/Alternative pub and venue 2001-2006, it was the first venue I took my wife to see a local Goth band when she moved to Bristol from Chicago in 2003. Used to go to a fair few clubs in Stokes Croft at the Blue Mountain, Powerhouse, Club UK etc. Not really been to Stokes Croft since as its all been gentrified, like a lot of Bristol has. Now the Bierkeller, Crown and Hatchet have gone I am glad we left Bristol 5 years ago. Would not want to be in my 20's there now, we had far more choice in the 2000's. Just overpriced and overrated now, sadly. Thanks for posting.

Love this band--found some of their old releases many many years ago at a used record store. Great to hear/see them playing the songs live, I just wish they had a real drummer instead of programmed tracks. Still, an amazing band that deserves way more recognition. Cheers!

When I was young I contacted Porl King to see if I could locate a copy of gEN cON which he didn’t have. A few years later he started Misery:Lab and I bought each release religiously, but the From Which No Light Escapes was released and I didn’t have a credit card at the time so I wrote to Porl asking him to set aside a copy because they were limited and when they were gone, they were gone. He said “no problem” Two weeks later I received a package from the UK (I live in America) containing a copy of FWNLE! The guy not only gave me a copy of the album at no cost, he paid the postage to ship it to America!! Unfortunately his girlfriend/wife would later jump on me for daring to ask if Porl would do anything with vocals ever again (this was In Death It Ends era) because apparently telling Porl his voice is the best part of his work is somehow a dick move and I’m an arse for not respecting him as an artist… Anyway, Porl King is a really nice guy.

I've still got the big artwork from the Real Life single on my wall. Loved that guitar sound. Only managed to catch them once live despite them being THE local band. They seemed to get lost in the Rock shuffle a little with Gun, Little Angels, Thunder, Magnum, Godfathers et al but still had a pretty good following and released two excellent albums. Fairly sure they toured with either Soundgarden or Pearl Jam as well. Hope they're all doing well some 30+ years later.
