Can you make a clutch bypass? Like make a direct rubber to the rollers?

A tip for security screw removal: You can use a small flat head bit to fit into one side of the star, snugly alongside the center boss and spanning to "opposing" points of the star. Too easy, works every time!

I'll save you all even more headache and expense: in every example I've seen, THESE SWITCHES PRESS TOGETHER LIKE LEGO TOYS. In other words, they can be carefully separated such that you can flush the works with DeOxit followed by a bit of dry silicone lube. If the switch actually clicks, the switchback spring and contactor ARE functioning (not physically stuck) but instead dirty or carbonized. I've not ever needed to replace one of these that did not click. A simple clean does the trick.

Great summary. I'm close to purchasing one and your review has now swung the pendulum in favour of the X7. However I'd like to know which is best on hard (tiled or wooden) floors?

Josh, thanks for making this video. I felt confident in tackling the hose repair on our spot cleaner watching this. What I lacked was the finger and hand dexterity to do it smoothly. 😂 A magnetic bowl or jar for the screws is a must or you could spend an hour looking for the 6 mounting screws for the clean and dirty tanks like I did. Don't wrap your screws in paper towel. 😂🤦♂️ After almost 2 hours and 26.00 our spot cleaner sucks again! Cheers.

Thanks for this video! I got the old pump out while following your instructions. Is there a way to test the old one with an electrical tester? Simply to know for sure that it's faulty before ordering the new one. If it's not the problem, is there a return policy? Thanks!

I agree my shark Battery vacuum cleaner head stopped spinning took it apart ok but turned out the bearing had seized but the bearing was moulded in to brush roller assembly, Yip you guessed it ,in the bin it went . All because I couldn’t fit a replacement couple dollar bearing . Very Disappointed, I won’t buy another one.

Wish I could say the same. My Riccar has dual motors and has been nothing but trouble. Do not think I would buy another at the prices they ask. Such a shame I love it but it is way too problem prone. .

I think all these companies are using the Bill Gates method of business! It worked for him! I stopped buying printers because, you could only use that brand of ink for the printers to work right.

Many years ago I bought a Bissell pet vacuum cleaner at Walmart on Black Friday for around $50 to $60. That thing is loud but still works fabulous. When I moved out I left it with my mom and dad. My boyfriend had a shark with minor issues so we upgraded and gave that to my parents too. It's still works the canister clips are just broken... About 2 years later and my new shark is broken. The roller gave out. I think I'm going to wait for Black Friday and get another Walmart special.

You know it's a shitty vacuum when a basic installation isn't intuitive -- even for the guy who is a specialist. You can hear his frustration trying to force the piece in towards the end. We shouldn't have to force these parts into place, Dyson. This is the highest-priced, cheapest-quality vacuum ever.

Watched the whole video😊 Love Sharks… Own 2 (upright & stick) bought another for my daughter and only issues I’ve had with each style, is the electrical cord. Wish they’d fix it!

Thanks for the video. Didnt have time or money to find or buy a new pump so I ended up taking the pump apart and cleaning the corrosion that seized it. Not that it was difficult but your video was an easy reference on taking the machine apart. Scored a practically new Rug Dr cause someone didnt flush out the system and it corroded the pump. Side question...You have any/couple old pumps laying around so i can have a couple to clean out and have on stand-by? Will happily pay the shipping.

I thought I was the only one that was suspicious with the design of the Shark vacuum cleaners. I have a shark apex Duo clean and the rollers stopped working. After 2 hours of trying to get the tabs off the sides where the belts are, and then another 10 minutes trying to find the right torque driver, I finally took off both sides just to find that both belts looked in perfect condition. After putting things back together, the rollers still do not rotate which tells me it is an electrical issue. I have vacuums that I have turned into outdoor, garage, car type vacuums, and they continue to work well beyond my newest shark vacuum. I will never buy another shark vacuum simply because the suspicious and questionable design they employ makes me not trust their company any longer.

You've opened my eyes! I have a Shark that I've loved for 3-4 years. Terrific with long dog hair in particular. The switch went out to where I only get the floor function. The switch goes to carpet and nothing changes. It was a cheap vacuum, under $150, and now I know I'll never get another Shark. Off to find which brands you folks do recommend. I HATE that I'll just have to throw it away. Thank you so much!

I just phoned Shark Customer Service and they told me their products have a 5 year guarantee so that is your first course of action if your Shark Vacuum is less than 5 years old but I agree that being unable to repair these units is ecologically bad for the environment. Quick update, had a video call with customer service who verified the fault and sent out a replacement unit.

Do you have the other video mentioned on changeover hose replacement? My Dyson is exactly the same model and I found out that two hoses are not sealed (connected) properly when lay it down vacuuming. That caused air leak and no suction anymore. Not sure what caused this though since we normally don’t touch inside at all.

Thank you SO much for this video! Knowledge is power. I'm currently dealing with that one screw that's way down deeper than the rest. I did think I was crazy for a minute. I've purchased two sets of screws, called all around, and watched tons of videos. I thought I had finally found a screwdriver that wasnlong enough and narrow enough at Ace Hardware. But... it didn't have the hole at the bottom to accommodate the pin. So, I'm going to set this vacuum cleaner out on the curb. And I will feel bad if someone takes it thinking they have a good vacuum cleaner. You're awesome! Thank you! ❤

Hello I watched your video on how to decide which vacuum is best for you and still am unsure. I like the benefits it has of having a bag instead of the newer models because it’s more clean but I also have lots of dog hair, human hair(lots of girls in the house), pet danger, and kid messes on a semi thick carpet. We have the shark duo which was good about not wrapping hair around but the rollers stopped working randomly and like you said they made it super hard to get apart, so I did but ended up breaking the plastic. So right now I’m trying to find a good average priced vacuum that will last a while. In the video you recommended the Bissell for the cheaper version being the most reliable and easiest to replace things on. My question is which specific model would you recommend for the lifestyle in my home and that would be easiest for me to clean regularly and fix by myself, or is there a different brand you would recommend for this?

You went on the assumption the micro switch was bad for the roller not spinning. However the micro switch tested good so what was the final problem for the brush roller not spinning ?

Greetings... First off, this is one of the best vids I have watched during my brush replacement saga lol. Guess I need to clean my spongy bottom plate too. ***Do you know where I can buy the 'short' left side male end which inserts into brusk and makes it spin???*** Mine no longer exists :-( I believe you can screw it off so one would think there is a part. Didn't see it in a exploded diagram....soooo small. Really hope you can help. Thank!
