I know you this is an old video, but my question is, how do you know how much ink to pick up on the fude? I think the rain drops i either have too much it too little. Beautiful lesson. Sorry I'm 8 yrs behind. ❤

you can really soak the brush (80% up the hair) then stroke the ink stone to remove excess ink

I think my brush must be bad! What is it you are using? Mine stays mushed over with every dab and stroke and loses its point.
@BaikeiOrg Жыл бұрын
yes cheap brushes do that. a good beginner brush is only about $15 but anything cheaper than that will be difficult to use.

My raindrop shapes usually come out looking more like a triangle than an oval. Like an isoscelese triangle turned -45°. I'm not sure why, I'm hoping someone has a tip.

could be one or a few things: the brush (email a photo to [email protected] if you like), not enough ink on the brush, not bouncing enough to let the round part o the brush to touch the paper
@KRYoung_dev Жыл бұрын
I see, I will try different brushes and try to bounce them. I am using plain water on a special reusable kind of paper, where water appears black and then disappears after the paper dries. I didn't want to waste many sheets of paper when I am just beginning. Maybe this is the reason why, though. Sometimes the raindrops do come out the right shape, so maybe it is just my technique. I will keep practicing! Thank you so much for the reply!

I’m interested in finding “representational “ artists who have incorporated Asian calligraphic styles/sensibilities in to their work. Can anyone point me in that direction?
@BaikeiOrg Жыл бұрын
sorry we are unaware of such an artist in Japan. If you find one, they likely will be poor at calligraphy as are many ink painters

What kind of brushes do you recommend? I have trouble finding good brushes for calligraphy, the cheap ones fall apart and the expensive ones seem overpriced for what you get
@BaikeiOrg Жыл бұрын
We can provide a good starter brush. They're handmade in Hiroshima. Here's a link for your reference. baikei.cart.fc2.com/ca1/5/p-r-s/
