I am glad you enjoyed my vlog. Sometimes being a solo sailor it can get a bit hairy when approaching harbours; it’s when things can go wrong; very wrong. Fortunately I managed to duck behind the sea defence wall so I could prepare to go in the marina. I think the learning is to drop the mainsail and make the approach under Genoa; that way I could roll the Genoa in quickly without leaving the cockpit. I am now preparing to sail to Antigua, departing on LaPalma on the 27th December.

We made Landfall in Porto Santo when we sailed from Lagos. I thought it was a lovely place because the sand was a normal colour & not black as in Madeira. Outside of the marina village there was nothing but a rocky landscape so a bus was necessary to get anywhere. Maderia was a bit more industrial where we tied up. Nice memories though.

Very enjoyable vid thanks. She's handling those conditions well. A swing around of the camera to see the sails would be good.

Dear Mike, Any chance that you could get a furry mike that reduces the wind noise? It is difficult to make out your wise words whilst you are at sea! Best, D.

@@danielcarter5178 Hi Daniel, good news is I now have a microphone that will suppress wind noise. The not so good news is I have only just purchased it so there will be a few more videos with a bit of background noise; my apologies.

Hi Mike, another great video, however the wind over the microphone made it very difficult to hear you. When we did the Arc in 2013 on a Moody46 we also had mostly downwind sailing with 35 knots of apparent wind. The wind vane had cords operating the the wheel across the cockpit & seemed to cope very well for the 22 days across the Atlantic. We had 4 reefs in the main & a very small amount of Genoa poled out. We turned the engine on to boost the batteries in the evening for washing up & also so that we had enough battery for the navigation lights. Cheers.
