No other large American city has those big ugly concrete pillars throughout their downtown like we do with the People Mover. They are such eye sores. Demolish the People Mover and expand the Qline. The Qline looks amazing and helps to bring in something that’s missing badly from downtown Detroit and that’s modernization

Like more transit is good for people who drive too. People here really don’t know how transportation works.

Omg cheap parking… parking prices don’t go up because there’s more transit they go up because there’s more demand for parking. If almost everyone is driving, they can charge more cause there’s no competitive alternative. Does this person actually just want no more growth and therefore no more demand for parking? Do they want there to be less businesses so parking will be cheaper? Like I agree cheaper parking is great but this idea that more transit means negative impacts for drivers is so weird and incorrect. Wouldn’t it be great if all of the people who suck at driving but don’t have another option could reasonably take transit instead? More transit means less traffic.

TBH, it is my experience this concept is NOT widely understood, especially in Michigan and Metro Detroit. This is but one of the comments, the vast majority of people view it through the lens of cheap parking. This is, I believe, most of us have little to no experience using transit that mostly works, or even being around it. And often, people who travel and are open to these ideas - and find it - just move where the services and jobs already are. If you grew up your whole life almost never seeing something or using something, you wouldn't know how it could benefit you.

Expansion, correcting the MAJOR FLAWS of the initial system would be too costly now and shut it all down way too long.... Shame they did NOT think it through well enough the first place... Kinda STUCK now what we got, and making best of the BAD SITUATION it created regarding any future potential growth.... extended detailed thoughts.... I, when I worked downtown, always used PM... BUT.... Upgrades, not CHANGES. Too late, it should have already been two-directional, double decker tracks w/ Trains going both directions - TOO LATE. HOWEVER, there MUST be a run from some part, double-wide/decker Trains go both directions to/from DTW. THEN ALSO create another separate and distinct different NORTHERN LOOP (only "attached" in the sense that at least 2 Stations should be side-by-side or just-across-street, for easy transit/transfer betw. the 2 loops (and to 3rd DTW loop). Put new loop/track along side Northern most parts of existing loop to go toward Ford Field, loop behind both Ford Field then along I75-ish next to Comerica, then across Woodward up and around LCA, they back downtown via Cass to complete the Northern loop/Stations back with Stations to interchange between the 2 loops. That would solve A LOT OF THE ISSUES! Sadly, too late, too expensive, too much of a pain, to go putting on a 2nd teir of existing loop to make it two-directional - so keep concept, add new routes (except to/from DTW, that MUST be 2-directional, side-by-side or double-deckered to allow flow both ways or the or the trip too long around - or, really, it still be a loop, but most of the track be side-by-side to at least MOST of the Stations and peeps can then jump to the other direction Trains if need be). Let's FULLY THINK IT THRU this time before digging in the ground. And the part I heard elsewhere about shutting down PM for 2+ months REALLY BAD IDEA (but, I get it, gotta shutdown on occasion since it is one-directional there isn't another direction to shutdown just one-direction while other maintained but still going (full round loop) while the other direction being maintained. Again TOO LATE NOW they didn't think thru but shutdown CANNOT be 2+ months time. And even LONGER TERM, need be a CORKTOWN loop and a up to Belle Isle loop!!!

And furthermore, Detroit is not burdened by "nostalgia porn". Like other older U.S. cities, it has that should ALWAYS BE RESPECTED. This city is continuing to persevere, evolve and develop in the 21st century, as those of us who have truly lived here our whole lives, not just metro detroiters, or sometime detroiters can attest to. The OLD and the NEW Detroit can coexist. But I guess a whining millenial black boy and white girl disagree.

Not so bad an idea, but get off the fence. Have the courage to run as a Democrat or a Republican. Don't try to be all things to all people, and wind up being a zero.

Also they use our tax dollars on billionaires instead of mass transit, lighting, fixing curbs and sidewalks and street scapes. Let's use our tax dollars on transit through out Wayne county first, then if the suburbs want to join us let them use their own tax dollars to connect the region.

It’s VERY DISAPPOINTING knowing who owns MY FAVORITE BUILDING ( architecturally speaking ) the PENOBSCOT 😒 in Detroit… I wish SOMEONE ELSE with DEEP POCKETS VISION and an EXCELLENT TRACK RECORD..preferably other than D.G. would have taken over that building when it became available and brought it back to a class a piece of real estate….. the way you describe Michigan Central it’s sounding like a really exciting place … 🤔 could a Jack in the Box survive there or possibly just alone somewhere in that cork town area I believe it could another option Ferndale either if there’s space on 9 mile or Woodward Ave .

For the Lions to get revved up against their division rivals in the second game instead of worrying about them getting revenge, Dan Campbell should show the Lions the all-time record against these teams. They expect to be at us. Now that we are good we should have no mercy on them...Beat them Every time! Embass them for all the losses we took.

You've yet to mention or review Fixins Soul Kitchen in Detroit, 1 of 3 in the country opened months ago. This is a pattern I've noticed you have of mentioning your experience or awareness of new eateries openings in the suburbs or downtown midtown Detroit but hardly ever black restaurants in Detroit core ...your more comfortable catering to the habits of a certain class of people which isn't inclusive of average blue collar colored persons.

As a Detroiter (and not a young one, either), Trump was right. I clearly recall the heyday of Detroit, when it the most functional, productive city in North America. Now, it's merely a large area of incivility and dependency on handouts. Even the Motor City is hell bent on buying foreign cars and loading them with shoddy junk at US retail prices. That can't be a self sustaining economy. This however is NOT a Detroit phenomenon; it's national. The run was good, it lasted ~ 80 years, and it's over.

Bullshit. You must be homebound because of your age because if you actually got out, you'd see the city going through a huge renaissance. And it has been for years. I live in PA but have worked in Detroit for 30 years. The Detroit you're talking about existed 40 years ago. The downtown has been and continues to be revitalized, Ford bought the Michigan Central Station, a hallmark of Detroit's decay, and has not only fixed it up but restored it. All of Corktown is following suit. Michigan Ave used to be nothing but rundown, burnt buildings. The blight was cleaned up years ago. Dearborn is now a fun place to hang out. The Book Cadillac Hotel has been restored. I've stayed there. What a great place. The Packard plant is being torn down. Then there's the other major projects: Paradise Valley Developments, revitalization of Detroit’s Waterfront: The Ralph C. Wilson Centennial Park Project, Hudson’s Site Project, the Development at Cadillac Square, formerly known as the Monroe Blocks project, $2.5 Billion Revitalization Plan for Detroit’s New Center and I could go on and on. In 2023, Detroit reported fewer criminal homicides than in any year since 1966. Back in your "heyday" The Big 8, CKLW radio, had what they called the Detroit Murder Meter. Every time someone was murdered, they moved the meter up a notch. Take your MAGA lies and propaganda somewhere else. You're insulting the great people of Detroit and I for one, am sick of it.
