Ford Australia was building cars on an orphan platform and not exporting to the rest of the world. The cost of developing these cars couldn't be amortised across the low volumes and it became unaffordable. Shifting demographics to SUVs also killed off sedan's in general. Plans to build smaller cars fell away has the margins aren't large enough and Australia is a high cost manufacturing location.

No car company in Australia ever made a true profit without huge tariff barriers and copious subsidisation by taxpayers. They had decades to build products of high quality, products the market wanted, and products which could have been exported all over the globe. But did they? No, they sat on their fat lazy arses and colluded with governments and unions to send taxpayers' money back to Detroit to support their industry. As well as that, they also colluded with those same organisations to destroy any Australian based and owned company which had the temerity to try and compete with the foreign owned companies and build a true Aussie designed, built and owned car. Ford was no loss to Australia, nor were GM, Toyota, Mitsubishi, Nissan and all the multitude of other foreign owned and run companies which saw us as feeble mugs to screw money from. The real loss was never supporting our own people who had the balls to invest in this country, attempt to build an industry and who were destroyed financially, mentally and physically by their own governments and population who allowed the disgracefully corrupt activities to occur. If a truly independent Australian automotive industry had been encouraged and supported to even a tiny extent that the greedy foreigners had, we would still have a thriving, vital and profitable industry with all of its assets today. But we didn't. And it's far too late now.

Funny how australia went from making 1000 cars a month among all makes to ford just making 1000 falcons a month but then cutting import tax and increasing fully imported crap made by workers getting $6 a day makes you wonder the aus government is at fault for not protecting australian jobs

Generally agree. Think the amphicar shouldn't be included. It was a specialty vehicle.

The amphicar is in there
@SMBCarReviews Жыл бұрын
it still has 4 wheels and it can be driven on the road so yes it belongs there in my opinion

Simple ,as time went on the amount of cars built and sold in Australia decrease not economic to make .I herd in 2009 that Australia would not be making cars after 2018 or there about?
@SMBCarReviews2 жыл бұрын
yep i agree but as they say they did not sell enough cars ether they did not sell the same amount of cars as what they was making which in hand bankrupted them when they closed the doors they lost 890 million give or take a few million
