Can I just tell you that I bought the pre k in 2022, and went to join their Facebook group. They denied me, and I messaged and asked why... It was because they scrolled my Facebook page from 2020/21, and decided I "wasn't a good fit for their group" 🙄😂 the only thing I could assume was my public posts about covid offended them. But it was the most ridiculous rude thing ever! Imagine not allowing someone to join a curriculum support group, because of their previous posts and stance on covid. Like there is any connection there at all. 🤦

We tried both K and level 1 but I just could not get into it. It was way too much work to source books and materials. It felt like a glorified booklist and just didn’t flow that well. I think open and go fits a lot better for my style. We ended up leaning towards TGATB although not secular. The pickings are so slim for secular materials.

Really love your videos and I really appreciate your explanations about history. I myself am trying to relearn and expand my history knowledge. Your channel is one of the few where I can gain truth and insight for my homeschool. Thank you. 🫶

This was a great review. I bought Torchlight K with the intention of using it as a supplement to Build Your Library O. Now I need to find the honest reviews for BYL0. I'm also running into the issue of not being able to find most of the BYL0 books in our library system (and we live in a city with many branch libraries).

Ive been looking at torchlight. Its affordable but i feel as a homeschool family that is very experiential focused there needs to be activities accompanying the list to justify the cost

I was an early adopter and found I’d purchased a lovely booklist but that was about it. One thing about the FB group is that as a mum of a boy I got a quick wake up call on the harm my previous very feminist views can cause for boys (in my country working class white boys like my son are at the very very bottom of education attainment. They need extra help and positive reinforcement)

I have a 5 year old and a 2 year old. I am still nursing my 2 year old and man some days he is nursing like he's a newborn. I feel like I am failing my 5 year old. I have asked myself a lot this very week if I need to send him to school but your video has really impacted me. BTW, I noticed you haven't put a video out in a while. Hope everything is okay. I really love your personality and videos.

My kid had a tough time reading but Besst Academy has a button that allows the instruction to be read to them but it would help if she can mostly read and just needs help here or there.

Thank you so much for this. I had the same experience with Torchlight and I've always felt horrible about not being able to make it work. I'm the type of homeschooler that quits a curriculum if it's not working for us, but this one was different. The fb groups I'm in sing the praises of this curriculum and I felt like something must be wrong with me. Thanks for making me not feel so alone, now I need to finally recycle all of the pages I printed lol

It felt like a glorified booklist to me and I could not justify purchasing that many books often only used once or twice. For me it didnt flow well, required way too much planning, and the financial expense of purchasing every single book it was too much. I think open and go curriculums fit my style better.

We used SOTW in the past but after learning more about cognitive science, I no longer liked the practice of studying one specific time period for a whole school year. We are actually using the free Core Knowledge history curriculum right now and are really enjoying it.

Thank you so much for posting this. I guided discussions around religion with my son during the first book but I have been on the fence about still using this curriculum for 2nd grade. After watching your video I have decided to not continue using it. I was already looking at history quest but am checking out my cart now after seeing that this is what you are using too now! I had already heard so many good things.

We had the same experience with teach your child to read in 100 easy lessons. We gave up reading for quite awhile because she “hated reading”. I’ll look into the bob curriculum you mention. Also I think I heard you right, your daughters name is Winnie? My daughters name is Winnie too! 💕 When did you switch to dimensions? In the middle of the first grade math with confidence or in second grade? We are currently doing the first grade Kate snow curriculum so just curious. Would love to hear your thoughts and comparisons on the two math curriculum’s.

Aw thanks so much for this video to evaluate US History curriculum and for your hearty recommendations! I've been influenced, and I am buying THEM all for our next homeschool year (2023-2024) starting with hunting down the AP textbook that you love. I ended up with the AP 5th Edition version since it was inexpensive and updated. The 6th edition was too expensive, and the 7th edition will be released later this year. I really just want to have a main spine to draw from, and I will include read aloud segments from the other books you mentioned. I am a type A homeschool mama, and I like to have stuff outlined for me first before presenting and exploring topics with my kiddos. When we start our US studies I'll have a rising high schooler and middle schooler, and we will be moving into Early Modern times which will coincide with late middle age/early modern time in America, so having these to supplement will be great to add American History to our morning basket routine. Thanks a whole bunch! Love your videos!
