She got influences from things like Balkan, Greek and Turkish music, and created something new... as people have done down the ages with musical styles as also other artistic media and areas of culture. Your notions of charlatanry and quackery are based on a false premise, that there is an 'authentic' traditional style somewhere that must never be copied and is not based on copying. Actually most musical styles begin as synthetic concoctions - almost every modern style and many traditional ones. Also all people need to appreciate Lisa's music is to like it, not to know what its origins are... if people find her singing beautiful that is all that is needed, that is not undone by knowledge or lack of it of what she was influenced by.

Thanks for posting this. I absolutely love Lisa Gerrard. Her voice just reaches into my being. My son at age 4 used to request that I put on her music in the car when I'd pick him up from day care. At 7 today he is still a fan. What a tremendous gift Lisa is to the world.

Lisa, Dead Can Dance is probably the best music I've ever heard in my life. Truly soul moving, nothing else comes close. Prior to discovering Dead Can Dance I use to listen to Techno, Trance and Dubstep. I was beginning to lose faith in music but your stuff changed all that.
