i remember this battle it took out all of my fighters, then my frigates, then my destroyers i had some captured ships from earlier missions i kept safe through the entire campaign i dont remember what i had left, but the last of them took down the beast ship

First i was playing this, i thought " oh great, they found some alien signal, maybe it will lead for some interesting quest" But i didn't ever thought this will become a pure nightmare!

The best horror game. First time i was playing it felt so desperate, i was afraid to exit hyperspace surrounded by beast fleet, and then subverted. Oh god..

I always thought that guy who tells them to jettison the lower decks was a real hero. He knows he's already dead and his only concern is that they save the rest of the ship.

I love these voice actors! You can clearly hear sadness and regret from the Taidani admiral @33:12. The loss of their world and life, and their regret of having to resort to siding with the beast. I'm pretty sure that this Taidani realizes the horror he is about to help unleash but sees no choice.

The way the huge Naggarok just starts and stops at crazy speed is just spooky with these old graphics.

To this day, the Kuun-lan is one of my four favourite spaceships.

It really sounds like they just grabbed some poor intern who has never done any voice acting in his life and had him read lines for the end of mission cutscene. It's jarringly bad.

That Mimic deserves all the respect. Going inside the most aware Beast ship of all to get a sample. If that were me assigned that task, I would of thought it was a suicide mission. Edit: ....I completely forgot the Mimics' main source of attack...

It's one of my deepest regrets that the source code for Homeworld: Cataclysm was apparently lost, so the developers could not make a remastered version. I don't know if that's true or not. But this is definitely an epic game that deserves respect and should be cherished forever. If anyone wants to buy it, it's available on GOG - big props to them for making it available to purchase as a digital copy.

I am actually working on a sequel to hw 2 (and a more legitimate sequel to Cataclysm) But I'm still in the early stages of development. I'll also need a team to get very far, and I'm going to do my best to keep it true to Cataclysm in terms of lore and whatnot.

This 'Cataclysm' (now 'Emergence') is actually a story about Somtaaw under 'Kiith-Sa', the same Kiith clan that led the Gaalsiens, back in 'Desert of Kharak', against the northern S'jet - hence why Somtaaw often threw the word 'Martyrs of Kharak'...

This game is the best homworld game, also in that it feels like you are all the time developing some little new impovements for your fleet. Somehow the other 2 games don´t give that feeling.

The Kuun-Lan captain is so badass that make Karan S'jet looks like fanfic cyborg mary sue that only save her own people compare the captain saved the whole sand-cursed galaxy that includes his officer she even developed as a character than Karan's

One thing that pissed me off about Homeworld 2 more than many other aspects was the fact that they didn't learn from Cataclysm on its major strengths, such as hiring more than what seemed like 4 voice actors. The unique voices for every unit type in Cataclysm made it not only more immersive but it was much easier to tell which one was screaming for help, instead of the legion of similar sounding dudes in every ship class. At least Deserts of Kharak didn't repeat that mistake

I've always liked Cataclysm a lot more over HW2. Damn shame that game never got a proper enhanced edition like the other two. My favourite bit is how they call themselves a mining vessel from the start, and later rock in designated a war ship.

I really like how ragtag the mining fleet is at the start with tugs turned into ramming frigates, no real corvettes just two fighters stapled together....and that is also reflected in the dialogue. The CAAL-SHTO smugly suggests that they "find someplace save to ride this one out" while the real warriors deal with it. Yea, then we see later what happened to these particular warrior kith.

they have another homeworld in the works I wonder if this beast will have an origin brought up into it.

I'm rewatching this multiple times And I enjoy it everysingle time when I do so

that point blank shot from the siege cannon in the end.. epic! this is how I have done as well; first sending away my ships, then blast that damned thing. The addition of siege cannon was a really good one in this game: it made the last missions feel grandiose, heroic, marching into battle with a huge, powerful but flawed weapon. mounted on a mining ship.
